KPOP over OPM

K-pop (Korean: 케 이 팝 ; RR: keipap), short for Korean popular music, is a

genre of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. The more
modern form of the genre emerged with the formation of one of the earliest K-pop
groups, the boy band Seo Taiji and Boys, in 1992.
Modern K-pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s, as K-pop idol music grew into
a subculture that amassed enormous fandoms of teenagers and young adults. After
a slump in early idol music, from 2003, TVXQ and BoA started a new generation of
K-pop idols that broke the music genre into the neighboring Japanese market and
continue to popularize K-pop internationally today.

Almost every K-pop group has a fan club made up of K-pop fans who are
generally called Kpoppers or Kpop stans. These fandom's names are not merely
words thrown together at the last minute; they carry a special meaning and some K-
pop fandoms have become as popular as the artists it is dedicated to. Mainly Army
for BTS, Once for Twice, EXO-L for EXO, etc.
The KPOP itself is not infact slowly killing OPM nor does it harm OPM in any
ways instead it is the toxic fandom of the KPOP within the Philippines which is slowly
killing off the OPM most of them comes from the newer generation of kids who gets
influenced by other toxic fans.
I am not generalizing all of the KPOP fans in the Philippines but only those
toxic fans who are increasing in number day by day. Many of these toxic “fans” looks
down on OPM I have seen countless posts in the online platform called Facebook
where people posts inappropriate things about OPM stating KPOP is way better,
OPM sucks, etc.
Some toxic fans even stop other people from using purple hearts emoji in
Facebook or some are too obsessed they even fantasize or even really believe their
idols are their husbands or wives and some when they see their idols getting bashed
they slice their wrist or not eat for days showing the internet they’re mad.

Lest we forget, majority of the youth people in the Philippines are fonds of
KPOP which leads to them forgetting OPM and even criticize OPM. Forgetting to
uplift the Filipino and be proud of what we have and what we can do. It is not wrong
to idolize KPOP and it is not wrong to not like OPM. What’s wrong was being
obsessed and become toxic to point criticizing the OPM and looking down to our own
Filipino people. Lets not forget that we are a Filipino,a family and we should unite to
bring everyone greatness.
