When I was in elementary school, I had to have my appendix taken out. The appendix is

located on the end of the colon, and it is known to become inflamed. As a seven year old, I was

confused about what was happening. I went to the store and when I got home, I suddenly had an

intense pain in my lower abdomen. After my dad talked to me, he told me that we had to go to

the hospital. He works at Providence as a family medicine doctor, so he knew exactly what was

happening. Soon enough, I was rushed to the hospital and brought to a room. My surgery was

scheduled as soon as possible while I waited in the hospital room.

After the surgery, my stomach still hurt, and I had to spend the night. Luckily, my

appendix did not rupture, so I could be let out sooner rather than later. As a kid, the surgery was a

little scary, but it was better than having my appendix rupture instead.

This story is engaging because it tells the story of appendicitis, which some people can

relate to. It is connected to human biology concepts because it has to do with surgery. There was

discovery involved in the process because I figured out what it was like to have surgery. Lastly, I

used a narrative story approach.
