Watch a video of Eiga delivering his persuasive speech carefully. Discuss the following
questions.

1. How is the verbal communication of the speaker? Discuss about volume, pitch, rate, pause,
vocal variety, pronunciation, articulation, and dialect used by the speaker.
2. How is the non-verbal communication of the speaker? Discuss about personal appearance,
movement, gestures and eye contact used by the speaker in the video.
3. Does the speaker apply some fillers in his speech? What are those?
4. How does the speaker handle the questions from the audience? Give your reasons.
5. What is your suggestion to the speaker so that he can improve his performance?
Answers
1. The verbal communication of the speaker is great.
a. Volume
The volume is loud enough so that the audience can hear clearly.
b. Pitch
The pitch is good, the speaker can place the highness and lowness sound of a
word well.
c. Rate
The speaker's speaking speed is well, so that the audience does not feel bored
and does not lose the points conveyed by the speaker.
d. Pause
The speaker can control the pause well, but sometimes a sentence pauses
before it is finished.
e. Vocal variety
The vocal variety is very good because he can express several sentences which
are important points in the presentation.
f. Pronounciation
The speaker's pronunciation is very good because the word is pronounced
correctly.
g. Articulation
The articulation is clear so it produces good pronunciation.
h. Dialect
The speaker's dialect is very good and sounds like a native speaker.
2. The non-verbal communication of the speaker is good.
a. Personal appearance
The speaker’s dressed is suited to the occation the speech because the
eoccation is not very formal.
b. Movement
The speaker can control the room and appear confident in the movements he
makes.
c. Gestures
The speaker's gesture looks natural and doesn't look nervous.
d. Eye contact
The speaker makes eye contact with the audience, so that the audience can
focus and pay attention to the speaker.
3. Yes he does. The speaker apply some filler in his speech such as Filler Words like
actually, literally and exactly and also Filler sounds like um, uh.
4. The speaker can handle questions from the audience well. It because the speaker can
listen to the questions well and the questions can be answered directly, but he did not
confirm the answer to the asker whether the question had been answered sufficiently
or not.
5. The speaker will be better if he can control the pause of a sentence well so that the
sentence is not truncated. Then, in the video, the speaker closes the presentation
before conducting a question and answer session, so that my suggestion is that before
ending the presentation session the speaker should not forget to open the question and
answer session. And it is advisable for the speaker to ask the questioner whether the
question is sufficiently answered or is sufficiently satisfied with the answer he has
given.
