The graphs below show the enrolments of overseas students
and local students in Australian universities over a ten
year period.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the
main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

The provided diagram illustrates the number of both

overseas and domestic students who enroll in universities in
Australia within a decade from 2001 to 2010.
Overall, the number of enrolments of overseas students
gradually increases over the years while that of native
students tends to fluctuate.
It can clearly be seen that in the first quarter of the
decade, the number of students from overseas increases at a
steady rate of about 5000 and 2000 per year in terms of
total and commencing numbers consecutively. Total local
enrolments, however, escalates at a much faster pace, from
just 400000 students in 2001 to approximately 550000
students in 2004. In the following years, the overall number
of non-native students in universities rises at mostly the
same rate and stops at more than 80000 at the end of the
decade, while that of the native students halts going up in
2007 at 600000 students. Throughout the whole period, the
number of local commencing enrolments fluctuates, reaching
the highest point in 2002 at 215000 students and the lowest
in 2001 at 185000.

Writing task 2

Write about the following topic:
Some people think that hosting an international sports event
is good for the country, while some people think it is bad.
Discuss both views and state your opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant
examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.
A proportion of the public holds such belief that being
the host of a worldwide sports event would significantly
benefit the nation, while others oppose agaisnt such idea.
In the following part of this essay, both of the provided
points of view will be thoroughly discussed and personal
experiences will be given.
The reason that it would be beneficial is that such a
widely organized event would be a perfect opportunity for
the country to promote culture and enhance the travel
industry. Some of their traditions, history and cultural
traits could be proposed in ceremonial performances.
Moreover, as an enormous number of tourists and athletes
travel to the country to observe and compete, locals can
provide the people with their respective specialties. For
instance, at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de
Janeiro, a particular segment of the ceremony was
highlighted to appeal the environmental conservation efforts
of Brazil as being the home of the largest rainforest
Amazon.
However, such events could have tremendous drawbacks to
both the economy and political sectors of the host nation.
It would take an extremely long period of time to prepare
and set up the event and also would cost an incomparable
amount of money for maintenance, security, advertising and
other aspects. As humans are greatly fallible, anything
could go wrong at the event and so would affect the
relationships between the host nation with other regions of
the world. For example, in the 2018 World Cup organized in
Russia, the country had spent several hundred billion
dollars into the event that would last for merely 3 weeks.
In conclusion, personally judging, a sharp agreement is
considered to the aforementioned view point that such an
intercontinental sports event would be disadvantageous to
the host country through multiple aspects.
