Site Inspection at 4B1 Station

INTRODUCTION

This note deals with the site inspection on the trench at 4B1 station, which is excavated for the
utility installation (storm water drainage). The trench is approximately 1.2m wide and 1.5m to 2.0m
deep.

VISUAL INSPECTION

Excavation down to 1.5m to 2.0m was conducted below the ground level for the utility installation as
shown in Figure 1. The ground consists of medium dense light brown silty find sand or compacted
backfill soil.

CONCLUSION

No additional support is required for this trench excavation in progress at 4B1 station. However,
loosen material shall be removed and the cutting surface needs to be covered with green nets to
avoid surface drying.
Last but not least, regular observations should be carried out to check the cutting surface condition.
If any of abnormal phenomena is detected, the work shall be ceased and it should be informed to
the geotechnical engineer immediately.
