above the point of access.

16.Access should not be obstructed.

17.No worker is allowed underneath loads handled

by lifting or digging equipment.

18.Spotter is required with the excavation equipment

at all times in order to guide the operator, to serve as
a look out in case utilities are discovered and warn
the operator accordingly.

19.Ensure that suitable protective system, i.e.

benching/sloping/shoring is in place as decided by
FAST Site Civil Engineer.

20.If soil collapse, cave-in, cracks is observed, stop

work immediately, inform fellow workers, leave the
work area and go to place of safety and report to
supervisor immediately.

21.If unknown or unforeseen utility is discovered,

report to supervisor immediately.

22.Use proper tools during hand digging. Tools

barricaded whenever possible so that mobile
equipment should not run over those utilities.

29. Utilities to be identified through safety Signage

describing affiliated hazards.

Before Work Starts:

In order to begin excavation work with minimum risk

to men, plant and equipment and to enable the work
to proceed without interruption, the following factors
must be considered by a suitably qualified person,
well before the job starts:

1.) Size and purpose of the excavation.

2.) Ground classification must be identified whether
the ground is stable rock or the soil classification is
A, B or C.
3.) Nature of the ground including the proximity of
made-up ground.
4.) Stability of adjacent structures.
5.) Position of underground obstructions such as
pipes, electric cables, and other utilities.
6.) Weather and soil moisture conditions, especially
high water table.
7.) Sources of soil vibrations (highway traffic,
railroads, machinery, etc.).
