Eurovision song contest essay

The Eurovision song contest is a song contest that is broadcasted all over the world. Every
country that participates may choose one person who represents the country. Eventually,
only one country can win.
In this essay I will write about the history/changes of the Eurovision song contest.

How come the Eurovision song contest is the way it is now?

The Eurovision song contest came into existence in the year 50. But what is the reason the
Eurovision song contest can into exist? Well, the Frenchman Marcel Baison came with the
idea that the (European) countries could be united by music after the war in Europe. The
first time the Eurovision song contest was held, seven countries participated. From every
country, there is one representative who sings two songs in their own language.
Later some changes were made; what changes took place? In 1999 you were allowed to also
sing in another language. Also, every interested country was allowed to join, under the
condition that they were in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Too many countries
wanted to join the Eurovision song contest. If all those countries would participate, the
Eurovision song contest would last for two days. So they decided to do preliminaries. The
preliminaries would take place take place on the first day.
The scoring changes as well. Earlier the representatives didn’t know their scores, they only
knew who was the winner. Now, the jury could divide the grades (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
12) over (the representatives of) the countries. And nowadays, people at home can vote as
well.

Conclusion
There have been quite some changes in the Eurovision song contest. I think those changes
improved the Eurovision song contest and make sure that the countries stay united. Also, I
think that the reason it came into existence is really nice; I like the idea behind it.
The Eurovision song contest is the way it is now, because of the history/changes. Without
the past/changes, the Eurovision song contest would never be the way it is now.
