Objectives

At the end of this activity, I will be competent in identifying and classifying

resources that facilitate teaching and learning processes.

My Tools

An Observation Guide for a LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER

Read the following statements carefully before you observe.

1. Go around the Learning Resource Center.

2. See what learning resources are present.

3. Examine how the materials are arranged and how they are classified. Are they

free from dust and moisture? Are they arranged for easy access?

4. Look for the guidelines/procedures for borrowing of materials. Are these

guidelines/procedures posted or available for the users to refer to?

5. Familiarize yourself with the guidelines and procedures. You may choose to take

photos of the center (if allowed).

Observation Report

Us we go around in the Learning Resource Center of Dasmariñas Elementary

School. In that center there four to five computers all of these well facilitate and it all

functioning. There is one computer where in all the important files of school are

installing in the computer. Only the principal and secretary are allowed to use that

computer. When the teachers need to type his/her grade of their pupils, they can use

the other computer except the one computer. Not only computer you will see in the

Learning Resource Center of Dasmariñas Elementary School, they have also two Xerox

machine all teacher can use these Xerox machine, there are also one scanner, one

printer and type writer . In arrangement the five computers in a vertical line and in every

computer there are chairs. The Xerox machine is located at the left side of ICT or

Learning Resource Center. No the gadget are not free to the dust and moisture

because the teacher maintain the cleanliness in every computer. In Learning Resource

Center or ICT I’ll never saw any guideline or procedure that posted in that room. So I did

not familiarize my self to the guideline and procedure. May be that’s why there is no

guideline of procedure inside the Learning Resource it is because under renovation. All

this learning material or gadgets can be help the teacher and pupils to have easy

access of information and Learning Resource Center should maintain the pool

instructional material as the need arise.

Impression:

My first impression inside the Learning Resource Center of Dasmariñas Elementary

School, it is pool of learning resources, like the Computer , Xerox machine, Television, and

other resources. So this learning resource is the most commonly used. All the learning

resources are arranged according to their function, well facilitate and well organized and

teacher keep the room clean.

Name and signature of Observer:

Name and Signature of the Learning Resource Center In-charge:

My Analysis

Were the learning resource/materials arranged properly according to their

functions and characteristics?

 Inside the Learning Resource Center all the learning resources or gadgets

arranged properly according do there functions. Like the computer all the

computer are align by vertical but may be some learning resources are arranges

properly by their characteristic.

Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the

teachers? Why? Why not?

 I’ll never saw any guidelines and procedure inside the Learning Resource

Center, so I think before to use the learning resource teacher tell the guideline

and procedure to the person who will use and may be teacher do the guideline

and procedure.

What are the strengths of this Learning Resources Center?

 The strength of this Learning Resource Center it is easy to access information

as need arise, it serve as source of information and also teacher can used this

as her teaching aids. And teacher and pupils can improve their capabilities and

performances. It motivates the pupils in learning processes.

What are its weaknesses?

 So if there is strength there is also weakness, so the Learning Recourse Center

there is no guideline and procedure it is important because it serve as guide for

the person who will use the learning resource. The number of learning materials

is insufficient for the total number of the pupils.

What suggestions can you make?

 For more improvement of the Learning Resource Center I suggest to display the

guideline procedure and rules to the center because to prevent the damage in

learning resource. And provide more learning resource for access of information.

My Reflections

1. Which of the materials in the learning resources caught your interest the most?

Why?
 Inside the Learning Resource Center the material caught my interest is the type

writer because now a day may be many people doesn’t want to use the type

writer because it is the traditional gadget, but it Dasmariñas Elementary School

they still used the type writer because they believe that type writer is easy to use

and in just a minutes you have a out put not just like the printer.

2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use/operate?

 For me the materials or gadget that I already confident to use is the computer

because in computer I can manipulate some programs. Like the Microsoft Power

Point in this program I can easy catch the attention of my pupils through the used

of animation, sounds and different picture.

3. Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?

 The one thing that I need to learn more about is how to operate the OHP or

Overhead Projector, because yes I know how to used some programs in the

computer but through the use of OHP I can more deliver my lesson and it is the

best instructional material because if you have a large class or you handle more

than 60 pupils it help pupils to see my lesson.

My Portfolio
Paste an article about an example of technology gadget/material that you

want to learn more about. How can this gadget/material be useful in instructional

materials?

 The overhead projector definitely has a number of advantages that would outdo

most other visual teaching aids. For instance, a lecturer can use it in just the

same way that he or she would use a chalkboard, but the biggest advantage

would be that with the overhead projector, lecturers all over the world now get to

face the whole class and maintain eye contact all times with their students

instead of having to turn around and write. As a teacher, you would know that

this eye contact plays a very big role in both facilitative as well as expository

teaching, and serves both as a means of receiving feedback from the class on

how good or bad the session is and as an outward non-verbal communication

medium for the teacher.

Another very important benefit that the overhead projector has over the

chalkboard is that it is multi-purpose and can be used to present pre-prepared

material, which enables lecturers to build notes, tables, diagrams, and so on. And

these can be used anytime, repeatedly.

If designed well and planned well, these overhead transparencies will provide all

the aides and cues that are needed during a lecture, so that you don’t have to

resort to the conventional note taking. These overhead transparencies are fairly

compact when you compare them with some of the other types of visual aids like

charts and can easily be stored in boxes, folders, files, or large envelopes.
As compared to most other projected visual aids, the overhead projector also has

another big advantage, as it does not require a room to be darkened, so it allows

students to take notes easily. It can also be used in any kind of room, except

ones with extreme bright lights or in the direct sunlight.

The overhead projectors is quiet, ‘user friendly’ and clean and requires no

technical knowledge or skill on the part of the person operating it apart of course

from the ability to change the lamps occasionally.

The OHP can allow you to have complete control of the class and holding your

pupils’ attention, it is a useful tool for any teacher or indeed worthwhile purchase

for any school which doesn’t have one.

1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays

do you see?

2. Where is the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can

see them?

3. What are the displays about? What images and colors do you see? How ate the

pieces of information arranged?

Recommendations or Suggestions for Improvement :

I recommend to the person who assign in monthly making of bulletin board, make

his/her work colorful and attractive to catch the attention of the readers to read his/her

post and have at least a unified theme for the clarity.

My Analysis

Did the board display design reflect the likes/interests of its target audience?

Why? Why not?

 The board display design are not catch the interest and like of the readers

because it is not attractive there is no layout or design so the tendency no one

likes to read the topic intended in bulletin board.

Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand?

Why? Why not?

 Yes! When it comes in language used by the teacher who assign in making

bulletin board, it has a clear and simple language so that can easily understand

by the readers and reads can get more value.

What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why?

Why not?

 The purposed of the board display is to gives the important of family, to show the

value of family and how to respect and love their family. It is effective because

when the readers realize that they need to love and respect his/her family they

can apply this into their family.

What suggestions can you make?

 I suggest that in making bulletin board it should be with finished edges, it must be

fixed on the wall to prevent accidents; it must be colorful and attractive to catch

the attention of the readers, have at least a unified theme for clarity and avoid the

overcrowded display and putting up, be guided by the principles of balance, unity

harmony, proportion and contrast. Always check and update the content is

appropriate for the pupils and school activities. The school should allow the

pupils to make or provide their own creative design in bulletin boards to have the

pupils participation.

My Proposed Board Display

Theme: Monthly Activities, School Program and Announcement

Board Title: Learn and Grow Together

Rationale: (Purpose)

To give information about the next activities, school program and other school matter to

the teacher, pupils, parent and the visitors and it must be located at the center of school.
Objectives:

To make a bulletin board it must be done with creative, and attractive. For the

enhancement of the material to use such us color paper, paint, picture and etc. that will

be use in a long time period.

Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:

The best feature in the bulletin board are the materials used, color combination and the

organization of all content indicates inside the bulletin board

Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description):

Announcement regarding to the school activities and up coming programs. School

picture that the school accomplish and the teacher of the month
Materials for aesthetic enhancement:

Color paper, cartolina, pictures and etc.

My Reflections

1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with

effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.

 In making bulletin board teacher bring his/her imagination and creative skills to

making an appealing and effective bulletin board. Use fall-related decorations,

images and even language to inspire pupils to read your bulletin board. Teacher

also knowledgeable because if the teacher has this skill she can think the theme

that suited to the level of their readers and Bulletin boards are a way where

teachers can show their talent, creativity and classroom management skills,

thereby enhancing their teaching skills. Using bulletin board ideas, teachers can

decorate their classroom, while also providing an excellent way to reinforce the
basic skills and abilities in children. Though bulletin boards are easy to make,

they require hard work and patience.

2. Which of the skills do you already have? Recall your past experiences in

making board displays. How do you practice these skills?

 The skill that I have already is creative skills, when I was in high even now in

college I used my creativity not only in making bulletin board but also in making

visual aids, so when I was in high school we have subject which is TLE in that

subject our teacher teach us different activities, through that activities my

creativity well practice, because I every project or activities we should used our

creativity, because creativity has the highest percent so we should do our best to

get that grade.

My Portfolio

Based on your suggestions, make your own display lay-out. You may present

your output through any of these:

 A hand-made drawing or layout

 An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or layout

 A collage

Class Observation Guide

Read the following statements carefully before you observe.

1. What is the lesson about?

2. What visual aids/materials/learning resources is the teacher using?

3. Observe and take notes on how the teacher presents/uses the learning

resources.

4. Closely observe the learners’ response to the teacher’s use of learning

resources. Listen to their verbal responses. What do their responses indicate?

Do their responses show attentiveness, eagerness and understanding?

5. Focus on their non-verbal responses. Are they leaning forward showing their

interest on the lesson and the materials? Are they looking towards the direction

of the teacher and the materials? Do their actions show attentiveness, eagerness

and understanding?

OBSERVATION REPORT

Date of Observation:
School: Dasmariñas Elementary School
Subject: English Topic: Adjective
Grade/Year Level: 2

 The lesson is the Jack and the Beans Talk for the reading and for the language is about

people it is a simple poem and in that poem the pupils will get the adjective word. The

learning materials used by the teacher are manila paper, picture and the chalkboard.

When the teacher delivering her lesson she pinpoint the word from the manila paper and
during the discussion she write the activity in the chalkboard and she allow the pupils to

write the answer on the board. She used picture to catch the attention of her pupils and

to understand the word through pictures. During the discussion half of the pupils are

participating to the teacher lesson, teacher keep asking and giving example, so the

pupil’s answers are correct because through the help of picture they can think faster.

Their responses show attentiveness and understanding because all the question of their

teacher they can answer by their own and the eagerness is in because the teacher has

reward for the pupils whose answer is right. Inside the class you will see that every one

has interest to the teacher lesson because without reading the direction they can answer

the activity given by the teacher so means they understood the lesson discuss by their

teacher.

develop.

What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/learning

resources that she/he used?

 I think that’s why my resource teacher choose these learning resource or

material (manila paper, chalkboard and picture) because it is easy to prepare and

she can used this to caught the attention of her pupils. Through the use of this

learning material (chalkboard) pupils can practice his/her writing, and self-

confidence will develop.

What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How this be managed?

 During my observation I noticed that my resource teacher, she present different

pictures, she posted these on the chalkboard, there is a one word is wrong

spelling. So the pupils tell to her teacher that the word is wrong spelling. The

teacher said I’m sorry children teacher is tired. So every things or learning

materials we should check it before we present to our pupils.

Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not?

 In over all the learning material used effectively in motivating pupils,

catch their attention, used as teaching approach and in all aspect of

teaching because it is the one tool that the teacher needs to teach the

pupils more effective and through the used of learning materials

pupils more participate during the class discussion.

My Reflections

1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what

would you do differently if you will teach the same lesson to the same group of

students? Why?

 I was in the place of my resource teacher I also make a visual aids that

appropriate to the level of thinking of my pupils. For example in making sample of

adjective word I used a picture that has related to the lesson and I make it sure

that the picture I use I large enough to be seen by the pupils who seated at the

back, to prevent my pupils not come in front. And I will group them, and they

dramatized the simple situation that has full of adjective word. Using these

activities pupils will learn how to cooperate; to help each other and their social

aspect will develop. These activities is a kind of authentic assessment where in

you allow the pupils to perform, what they have learn during the discussion, when

you do that may be they will apply it into real life.

My Portfolio

Include here picture/illustration of the materials used by the teacher. Put

your comment/ annotations about what you observed.

For the learning material that the teacher used it is appropriate to the thinking

level of her pupils it is not hard for the pupils to describe the picture, but the picture is

too small so that some of the pupils come forward to see the pictures. So teacher

should make visual aids that large enough to be seen by their all pupils.
