THE FUTURE

1.We use will ( will+ short infinitive)to talk about the future:
● when we make spontaneous decisions
● to express offers, requests, hopes, threats. promises, opinions
2. We use (be) going to ( to be present+going to+ short infinitive) :
● talk about plans and intentions(an intention is a plan for the future that you have already
thought about.): We're going to buy a new car next month.
● predictions based on evidence: Look at those black clouds. I think it’s going to rain
3. We use Present Continuous (to be present+vbing) to talk about arrangements. (An
arrangement is is a plan for the future that you have already thought about and discussed with
someone else.):
I'm meeting my mother at the airport tomorrow.
My sister's going to the dentist tomorrow.
4. We use Present Simple (Ivb) to talk about schedules (and outside of our control): The plane
leaves at 5.
5. We use Future Perfect ( will+ have+III vb ) to talk about an action finished before a certain
moment in the future:
By the time you come home, I will have cleaned the house.
