UNIT I LIMITS
- Prediction of the limit by tabulation.

Determine the limit by evaluating the function in values very close on the left and
right and then graph.

x 2.9 2.99 2.999 3 3.001 3.01 3.1

f(x) 5.9 5.99 5.999 6 6.001 6.01 6.1

- Comparison of the tabulation with the analytical calculation of the limits

Calculates the value of the limit by analytical calculation and compares the result
with the prediction obtained from the tabulation

f(2.9) = (2.9)2-9/2.9-3= 8.41-9/-0.1= -0.59/-0.1= 5.9

f(2.99) = (2.99)2-9/2.99-3= 8.9401-9/-0.01= -0.0599/-0.01= 5.99

f(2.999) = (2.999)2-9/2.999-3= 8.994001-9/-0.001= -0.005999/-0.001= 5.999

f(3) = (3)2-9/3-3= 9-9/3-3= 0 (IT IS NOT DEFINED)

f(3.001) = (3.001)2-9/3.001-3= 9.006001-9/0.001= -0.006001/0.001= 6.001

f(3.01) = (3.01)2-9/3.01-3= 9.0601-9/0.01= -0.0601/0.01= 6.01

f(3.1) = (3.1)2-9/3.1-3= 9.61-9/0.1= -0.61/0.1= 6.1

-Determination of continuity of function

Determine if the function is continuous at x = 1 and x = 3 by checking if it meets the

conditions

1. f(x0) is defined
2. lim f(x) exists
x -> x0
3. lim f(x) = f(x0)
x -> x0

Domain (-∞, 0) u (0, 0) u (0, ∞)
