Instruction: Discuss your answers to the given questions. Provide insights and examples
where deemed applicable.

A) Cited are “words of wisdom” from philosophers covered in our course, choose six (6) for
you to ponder on and explain.

1. “Do not train youths by force and harshness, but direct them to what amuses their mind
so that you may be able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”
Plato

 A teacher should always look on the interest of his or her students/pupils. Harsh ways of
training will never lead them to understanding rather fear to discover something. But if
he/she allows the students or pupil to practice their interest then, they will be able to
discover different avenue for them to use their skills.

2. “Human beings are the rational animals, most completely fulfilling their purpose when
they think, for thinking is their highest characteristics.” --Aristotle

 We humans are able to think. We can make judgments and we do reason out because we
know how to think. It Is evident in our everyday life. We can also make decisions based
on circumstances that we think is better.

3. “The unexamined life is not worth living.” --Socrates

 People should remember that we only once. A life without a purpose is like a car without
a driver. Having purpose and examining what life is will definitely lead us to a well
driven purpose life.

4. “Study without thought is labor lost, thought without study is dangerous.” --Confucius

 The first sentence means the acquisition of knowledge without analyzing or without
mental process. It just memorizing facts without analyzing it and without applying it.
While the second passage means saying our thought without analyzing or studying it first
will definitely put us in vain.

5. “Children have a secret world of their own that educators can learn about if they make
the effort.”

 Children are different from each other. They have different skills and interest. Some
children are good in writing, some are good in reading, some are good arts and etc., and
the role of the teacher is to discover it by means of exerting effort in discovering it.

6. “Education must secure for every Filipino the fullest measure of efficiency, freedom
and happiness. “ P. Orata

 Education should cater all the needs of the people. It should develop a person holistically.
It should not give fear to the people and it should free the people from the slavery of
being barbarian.

B. What teaching principles of Jesus Christ and Confucius are observed and practiced
in the current Philippine educational system? How are these principles implemented in
various academic institutions?

 The teachings of Jesus Christ and Confucius being observed and practiced in the current
Philippine educational system one is active learning, rather than giving ready-made
solutions, Christ and Confucius threw back on the resources of their students. The use of
questions also to stir the minds of their followers. The use of figurative language which is
evident until now. Team teaching or the group dynamics is also one of the teaching

methods of Christ and Confucius used during their time and until now, it is being
practiced. These principles implemented in various academic institutions by means of
adopting it and applying it in their ways on how to educate students. It come to function
in different Christian Schools were humanity isbeing the center of their goal in
implementing such education.
