EC8394 – Analog & Digital Communication/Assignment - 3

1. Determine the baud and minimum bandwidth necessary to pass a 10 kbps binary signal
using amplitude shift keying.
2. Available bandwidth of 100 kHz which spans from 200 to 300 kHz. What are the carrier
frequency and the bit rate if we modulated our data by using ASK with d = 1?
3. Find the minimum bandwidth for an FSK signal transmitting at 2000 bps. Transmission is
in half-duplex mode, and the carriers are separated by 3000 Hz.
4. Find the maximum bit rates for an FSK signal if the bandwidth of the medium is 12,000
Hz and the difference between the two carriers is 2000 Hz. Transmission is in full-duplex
mode.
5. For a BPSK modulator with a carrier frequency of 70 MHz and an input bit rate of
10Mbps, determine the maximum and minimum upper and lower side frequencies. Draw
the output spectrum .Determine the minimum bandwidth & baud rate.
6. For a QPSK system, with the following input bit sequence, 100010101101 & an input bit
rate equal to 20Mbps, Draw the QPSK modulated waveform, state assumption used.
Determine the minimum bandwidth required.
7. For an 8-PSK system, operating with an information bit rate of 36kbps, determine:
a) Baud rate b) minimum bandwidth c) bandwidth efficiency
8. For a 16-QAM modulator with input data rate fb =10 Mbps, and a carrier frequency of 70
MHz, determine the minimum bandwidth and the baud rate.
9. A binary FSK with a mark frequency of 50 kHz, a space frequency of 55 kHz and an
input bit rate of 3kbps, determine the peak frequency deviation, Modulation index,
minimum bandwidth & Baud rate.
10. Calculate the bit rate and baud rate of BPSK and 8-PSK if the bit duration, Tb and
signaling time, Ts are both 0.01msec.
