DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Pengertian, Tujuan, Struktur, Ciri dan Contoh Descriptive Text

Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like.


( Teks Deskriptif yaitu teks yang menjelaskan gambaran seseorang atau benda.)

Its purpose is to describe a particular person, place or thing. (


Tujuannya adalah untuk menggambarkan atau mengungkapkan orang, tempat
atau benda tertentu. )

Bisa dikatakan juga bahwa Descriptive text adalah teks yang menjelaskan
tentang seperti apakah orang atau benda yang dideskripsikan, baik bentuknya,
sifat-sifatnya, jumlahnya dan lain-lain.

Struktur Descriptive Text (generic structure) adalah :

1. Identification (identifikasi) adalah pendahuluan, gambaran


umum , mengidentifikasi atau mengenali sesuatu yang akan
dijelaskan.
2. Description (deskripsi)menjelaskan hal tersebut berdasarkan
bagian-bagiannya berisi ciri-ciri khusus yang dimiliki benda,
tempat, atau orang yang dideskripsikan/ .

Ciri-ciri Descriptive Text :


 Menggunakan simple present tense

MISS APRIL

Miss April is my English teacher in kindergarten and she teaches my class for a whole year.

Miss April wears square glasses and always cuts her hair short. She’s very tall and very
skinny. She says she doesn’t like her skinny body but doesn’t know how to gain weight either.
She loves wearing sneakers to school, always wears polo shirt and a pair of black pants. She

has not married yet and doens’t have any children on her own. She says that’s why she
teaches kindergarten, so that she can be near a lot of kids.

She is very smart and a very fun teacher. She teaches us a lot of things from animals to house
equipments. She loves to play with us, teaches us new words, how to spell the words that we
just learn, and sometimes she brings her ukulele to the class and sings us children songs,
such as Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star, and If You’re Happy song.

Bacaan di atas merupakan deskripsi seorang murid akan gurunya yang bernama Miss April.
Bila kita uraikan berdasarkan struktur descriptive text, maka:

Bu April adalah guru bahasa Inggris saya di taman kanak-kanak dan ia

menikah dan tidak memiliki anak. Ia bilang itulah yang membuat mengajar
taman kanak-kanak, agar ia bisa dekat dengan anak kecil.
Deskripsi
Ia adalah guru yang amat pintar dan menyenangkan. Ia mengajari kami
banyak hal mulai dari hewan hingga peralatan rumah. Ia suka bermain
dengan kami, mengajari kami hal-hal baru, bagaimana mengeja kata-kata
yang baru kami pelajari, dan ia kadang membawa ukulelenya ke kelas dan
menyanyikan lagu anak-anak untuk kami, seperti Itsy Bitsy Spider,
Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star, dan lagu If You’re Happy.

The Terrifying Headmaster

      Mr.Tucker is the headmaster of my school. He does not wear glasses. His eyes
always frighten me even when I refuse to face them. They are sharp, hard, and cold,
and he uses them like a whip.
        He always washes his hands in an enamel basin in the corner of the room. After
he has washed them, he will walk over to his desk and stand behind is looking at the
pupils while he dries his hands on a small, white towel. He dries each finger
separetely, beginning with the first finger. His  fingers are long and white. He rubs
them briskly without losing the effect of deliberation and as he rubs them, he looks at
us with his eyes.
       No one moves while he dries his hands, no one speaks. When he finishes, he will
fold the towel and put it in the desk drawer. Then, he will awkwardly smile at us.
      He really terrifies me.

Doraemon is one of the characters in a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko


Fujio. Doraemon is a robotic cat. He has small body and white hands and feet.
Although he can hear perfectly well, Doraemon has no ears.
     Doraemon possesses a large pocket that can produce many gadgets from the
future. The pocket is called yojigen-pocket, or fourth- dimensional pocket.
Doraemon’s favorite food is dorayaki, a Japanese treat filled with red bean paste.
     This robotic cat has the tendency to panic during emergencies. In an emergency
situation, he will frantically pull out every unnecessary gadget from his pocket.
Nevertheless, Doraemon is a good cat. He always helps Nobita.

until I wake up.

Kata have to digunakan untuk mengekspresikan kewajiban yang kuat karena
ada campur tangan dari pihak luar yang membuat adanya kewajiban tersebut.
Sebagai contoh, “Kita meski bekerja keras atau kita akan dipecat bulandepan, 
Saya harus mengirim berkas ini atau saya tidak akan mendapatkan upah”.
