INSIGHTS/REFLECTION ON THE TOPIC/LESSON
I grew up in a public school system. I've faced the difficulties that the reporter has described. As a student, I didn't mind sharing books with my seatmate, going to the Computer Laboratory once a week or briefly using the microscope with the fear of breaking it. I was pleased with those opportunities because, at that time, I considered them to be a privilege. However, after becoming a public school teacher, my viewpoints have changed. It's disheartening to see the students asking for books from other students or sections just to have references for their assignments or activities. They should have it already, but they're begging for it. Furthermore, teaching a classroom of forty-five to fifty students is difficult. Our school, Batasan Hills National HS, is one of the biggest schools in QC, with too many students, yet too little resources. Every school year, we have issues with overcrowding and a shortage of classrooms. A conducive learning environment is one consideration for students to learn, but with these concerns how can we be able to meet the needs of our students when even in the first place having a classroom where the teaching-learning process takes place cannot be provided by the school. With these things, unfortunately, we have failed our students the quality of education which they deserve. These problems have been present for a long time, but the Department of Education has failed to solve them. What is the reason for this? There are two explanations for this. To begin with, we are hesitant to accept that this is the reality – our educational system needs to be reformed rather than improved. Since we have different resources and needs, we must innovate our own educational system rather than simply copying that of other successful countries. We have to establish our own identities. It will take a long time and we may have to take risks, but nothing will happen until we step outside of our comfort zone. Second, our egoism. Let us consider what we can offer rather than what we can earn. Corruption and graft are the products of selfishness. If we can all put our hearts and souls into helping others, our educational system would be much more effective than we could ever imagine. The term "crescendo" in music refers to a sound that starts softly and gradually builds in intensity until it reaches its peak. Similarly, our current educational system is at its weakest point, and we can reignite our desire to improve and reinforce it by learning from our past mistakes and failures. These difficulties have the potential to make us wiser and stronger in the future.
