OSPA CONSTRUCTION: I’ll be back

Summarization

Mr. Oscar Pascua owns a construction business. He hired his niece Ofelia to
help him administer his business. Mr. Pascua allocated her to do administrative
work. Ofelia enjoyed her work so much. Due to good connections with the
employees, Ofelia feels the satisfaction with her job and she is always occupied
with her work. She thought that her co- workers in the company, the engineers,
foremen and construction workers understands instructions well. Besides, when
she hand out forms to each one of them to be filled up, she received no
compliance.

Milagros is Mr. Pascua’s sister. She is running her own entertainment


business.

Milagros borrowed Ofelia from her brother because she noticed that his
administration is orderly controlled. Milagros also wants her administrative aspects
in business organized.

Ofelia was happy to join her Aunt Milagros and thought that it is her time to
have a break from doing her regular period of work.

When she began working with her aunt, she have discovered that there are
lots of things she needed to deal with. Such as employees records are not complete,
and company policies and procedures are not properly recorded. Consequently, the
employee performance is difficult to recognized.
When Ofelia hand out the required forms over the employees and the talents,
she observe that they did not want to finish it. After two days, she was approached
by the janitor and asked if the forms she handed out will also be disposed together
with the other contents in the wastebasket.

Ofelia controlled her anger. She recovered her posture and asked herself
about the kind of people she’s dealing with. She is hoping that she could go back to
her former job.

QUESTIONS:

1. Do you think the situation is hopeless for Ofelia?


2. What will be your advice to her?

ANSWERS:

1. No. There is still hope to change the administration aspects of Milagros’


entertainment business. If she will implement strict policies and
procedures in the way of handling the employees and talents of the
business, there is still a change to make the business organized. She must
set rules on how to train the trainees and employees with values and
discipline.
2. Never give up on doing your work. If you want people change from their
bad attitudes, you must take the first action. And the first action is to
teach them how to listen and follow instructions. It will be difficult at
first but you have to be very patient to people.
