Mr. Richard Gomez hired his niece Dawn to help him manage his construction business.

He assigned
Dawn to do the administrative work. She enjoyed doing the various tasks she was ordered to perform.
Positive interactions with employees kept Dawn busy and contented with her work. She thought
engineers, foremen, and construction workers are people who easily understand instructions. For
instance, when she asked them to fillout the forms she distributed to each one of them, they complied
without much fuss. Mr. Gomez has a sister, Melissa, and she is operating her own entertainment
business. It was in her fold that some big stars in movies and television got their training and
involvement in the world of show business. When Melissa saw how orderly the administration of
Richard business was, she asked Richard if she could borrow Dawn for a while. Obviously, Melissa
wanted the administrative aspects of her business straightened out.

Dawn was only too glad to join her aunt Melissa. She thought that after doing real work, she needed a
break for her stint in the construction business. When Dawn began to work with her aunt, she found
out that there are many things she should attend to. For instance, employee records are not comple,
and company policies and procedures are not well documented. As a result, it is difficult to determine
employee performance. When Dawn distributed the required forms to the employees and the talents
who are undergoing training, she noticed that they were too eager to accomplish them. After two days,
the janitor approached her and asked if she would dispose the contents of the wastebaskets even if the
forms she distributed are in them. Dawn tried to contain her anger. After a while, she regained her
composure and asked herself, What kind of people are they? I wish I`m back at my former job?

1. Do you think the situation is hopeless for Dawn?

- No, for me Dawn can always tell her aunt the things she wants to tell because in fact it
was mentioned there that Melissa only asked to borrow her for a while meaning to say
she can still go back to her former job to Mr. Gomez. Its just that she should be open on
her aunt for her aunt to understand her side. Either she can tell her that she can’t
handle the work or the work is too hard for her. It is because there lack of information
that will help them perform her job. Like the employee’s record aren’t complete,
policies and procedures are not well documented which made her work difficult for her.
It is not hopeless if she will become honest to her aunt and tell her the things that made
her work difficult to handle or perform. It is for her aunt to be informed.
2. What will be your advice to her?
- My advice for her is to become honest and open to her aunt when it comes to the
difficulty of her current job. I suggest that she should tell her the flaws of handling the
administrative aspects of her company and that might cause her aunt to become focus
on the administrative part of her business. Because in business we should also focus to
the different aspects not just because we earned money means that everything is okay.
We should also focus to the aspects that will make our company perform well. So she
should be open in that case she might help her aunt straightened the administrative
aspect of her company.
