Killing of impounded dogs put on hold

Panay News | February 18, 2021

The scheduled “mercy killing” of impounded dogs in this city was put on hold. Authorities are convening
today to explore alternatives.

Under City Ordinance 184, if the dog owner fails to redeem the impounded dog for 10 days, the animal
will be terminated or subject to adoption.

On Feb. 16, secretary to the mayor Edward Joseph Cuansing, City Veterinary Office head Maria Agueda
Trinidad Dela Torre and executive assistant Ernesto Pineda convened to tackle concerns on the
impounded dogs at the Bacolod City Pound in Barangay 35.

The officials sat down with BACH Project Ph spokesperson Daniel Sam Salvatierra and PAWSsion founder
Malou Perez.

Bacolod mulls taskforce on animal welfare

Panay News | February 24, 2021

This city is planning to form an Animal Welfare Taskforce to address the health and wellness of animals,
especially dogs.

City officials and animal advocates convened last week and discussed programs for animal welfare.

They also tackled how to improve the plight of the 50 dogs at the Bacolod City Pound in Barangay 35.

These dogs were supposed to be euthanized but this was put on hold following the outcry of animal
advocates.

In the meeting, the officials and advocates called for an “effective coordination” between local
government units and non-government organizations.

Under City Ordinance 184, if an owner fails to redeem his impounded dog for 10 days, the animal will be
terminated or subject to adoption.

The city has yet to confirm the schedule of the mass euthanasia.

Gabbi Garcia appeals for help in saving 47 dogs on death row in Bacolod
GMA News | February 13, 2021

Gabbi Garcia is urging netizens to donate and help her in saving over 47 dogs in Bacolod on death row.

On Instagram, the actress shared multiple photos of dogs in cages that were so skin and bones, and said
they were scheduled to be killed by gunshot within the month.

"THESE DOGS NEED OUR HELP," she wrote. "47 helpless dogs in Bacolod are about to be killed by
GUNSHOT later this month. How is this even legal?? Please I’m calling out all the people who are willing
and capable to please help these dogs."

Gabbi said that the dogs were all up for adoption and people can also opt to give donations to Pawssion
Project Foundation, an animal welfare organization.

"Let us please spread the word and help raise awareness about these poor dogs. They do not deserve to
be treated like this!" Gabbi said.

According to Pawssion Project, four dogs were already adopted since yesterday.

"What other people see as trash, nuisance, unwanted and ridiculed, we see as angels in disguise and
teachers of life. So yes, they are not aggressive, they are just misunderstood. And we will continue to
fight for them," the organization said.

Pawssion Project also said that they're willing to give freebies, cover adoption, spay and neuter fees
should anyone wish to adopt and save a life.
"Spread the word. We can all do something," it said.
