Introduction about the Research Article

The research article entitled “Heat Stress Decreases Levels of Nutrient-Uptake and

Assimilation Proteins in Tomato Roots” was created in the year of 2016 by Anju Giri, Scott

Heckathorn, Sasmita Mishra and Charles Krause. This study showed that abrupt or short-term

heat stress can decrease root (relative to shoot) growth, the concentration of nutrient-uptake and

-assimilation proteins, as well as total protein, in roots, and the rate of nutrient uptake by roots.

Critical Evaluation

The title of the article reflects the content of the work and it accurately indicated the

subject and the scope of the study. However, the abstract of the study only contains the

methodology, the results or the summary of the findings, and the implication of the results

obtained or the conclusion. It lacks information on the research statement or the focus area and

the purpose of the study.

Moreover, as for the introduction of the study, it is found that the authors used evidences

of the literature review that are relevant enough which critically appraised other works and most

are recent enough to back up the credibility of the study. Thus, the introduction of the paper

served its purpose by being the background information of the study which orients the readers to

the problems. By where, it has included the rationale of the study that justifies its needs and

defined the aims of the study. In addition, the introduction used in-text citation which easily
directs the reader to the corresponding citation on the References list. As for the methodology of

the study, it comes after the results and discussion which in fact it is supposed to happen

otherwise. But good thing that the materials and methods of the study clearly stated how all the

data in the results section were obtained. There were no any obvious biases during the conduct of

the experiment and that all activities conducted are all relevant and help justify the objectives.

Furthermore, the results obtained are statistically analyzed and clearly presented in

figures and bar graphs. In terms on the discussion, the authors adequately compared their

findings on the other studies and they include citation that could strengthen the credibility of the

findings. The conclusion, on the other hand, is supported by the data and is clearly stated. Hence,

it meets the aims of the study. However, this article lacks recommendations for further research.

As for the references of the study, it is found that it used relevant and recent cited studies.

and the purpose of the study.

 The methodology of the study comes after the results and discussion.

 Lacks recommendations for further research.
