1. Steam expands adiabatically in a turbine from 2505 kpa, 400oC to 352 kpa, 242oC. What is the effectiveness of
the process in percent assuming an atmospheric pressure of 15 oC. Neglect changes in kinetic and potential
energy.
2. A steam turbine with 90% stage efficiency receives steam at 5.2 Mpa and 552C and exhausts as 50 Kpa.
Determine the turbine work.
3. A steam turbine with 92% stage efficiency receives steam at 7.3 Mpa and 552.3oC and exhausts as 20 Kpa.
Determine the actual exhaust enthalpy.
4. A steam turbine of 6 MW capacity has a Willan’s line equation of ms = 5.5L + 3,200 kg/hr. Determine the steam
consumption at 73% load, kg/hr.
5. Available enthalpy of turbine is ∆h = 1200 KJ/kg, turbine efficiency is 75%, full load capacity is 4,300 kw. Find
the full load steam consumption in kg/kw-hr.
6. A steam turbine receives steam at 1379 kPa gauge and exhausts it to a condenser where the vacuum is
indicated as 635 mm of Hg by a gauge. For a barometric pressure of 760 mm of Hg, calculate
(a) the absolute pressure at the turbine inlet, kPa
(b) the absolute pressure corresponding to the vacuum gauge reading kPa, and mm of Hg.
7. A steam turbine develops 200 horsepower while receiving 400 Btu from each pound of steam passing through
the turbine. Calculate the pounds of steam per hour required by the turbine to produce this power.
8. A steam turbine receives 5,000 kg/hr of steam at 5.6 MPa and 408°C and velocity of 30 m/s. It leaves the turbine
at 0.007 MPa and 85% quality and velocity of 15 m/s. Radiation loss is 10,000 kJ/hr. Find the kW developed.
9. A steam turbine with 89% stage efficiency receives steam at 7.2 MPa and 552°C and exhausts at 22 kPa.
Determine the turbine work.

10. A 6 MW steam turbine generator power plant has a full-load steam rate of 8 kg/kW-hr. Assuming that no-load
steam consumption as 19% of full-load steam consumption, compute for the hourly steam consumption at 75%
load, in kg/hr
