The economic activities of Panama are based

on the services sector, the Panama Canal,
banking, commerce, the Colón Free Trade
Zone, insurance, container ports, flagship
registry, and tourism. On the other hand, the
agricultural products provide the main export of
the nation. The primary crops are
bananas, cocoa beans, coffee, coconuts,
corn, potatoes, rice, soybeans, and sugar.

Education in panama

To discuss the different levels of education in the public and private sectors.

To compare the characteristics of public and private education

Education in Panama is compulsory for the first six years of primary education and the

three years of Middle School.  As of the 2004/2005 school year there were about 430,000
students enrolled in grades one through six (95% attendance).  The total enrollment in the
six secondary grades for the same period was 253,900 (60% attendance).  More than 90%
of the population is literate. The educational system provides for the free schooling of all
children in Primary and middle school. An excellent parallel private school system exists
primarily in Panama City.
