1Introduction

About this Guide


This training guide is designed to assist you as a user in learning
the basic functions of the IntelliVue MP2. It is written in a task
oriented way, providing a fast, hands-on introduction to the
monitor. Your task is to follow the patient’s cycle of care. After
Diagnostics Treatment
admitting a patient, you will learn how to acquire, manage and
evaluate data from the most common measurements. Cycle of Care

How to use this Training Guide


This Training Guide leads you step-by-step through the basic functions of the monitor. It is essential
that you work through all the steps sequentially in the order they are presented. You must use this
guide in conjunction with an IntelliVue MP2 and its Instructions for Use.

To get familiar with your monitor, you go step-by-step from task to task. These tasks are indicated by a
pointing finger symbol.
Places where you need to refer to the Instructions for Use are indicated by a book symbol.

Use this first section to familiarize yourself with the monitor’s basic operation and navigation. You may
find it useful to identify the numbered items in the space provided. Otherwise you can proceed straight

Switching On the Monitor

1 Disconnect any patient cable from the


monitor.
Press the power switch to turn the monitor
on.

Most of the patient data required for this training can be generated in the monitor’s Demo mode.
Sometimes you will need to apply a measurement sensor to yourself.

Activating Demo Mode


WARNING Demo mode is for demonstration and training purposes only. Never use Demo mode when a patient is
attached to the monitor. When you have completed your training tasks, always exit Demo mode.
When you leave Demo mode, the monitor clears all demo data from the monitor’s memory and uses
the default settings.

1 Press the SmartKeys key to open the


SmartKeys window.

2 In the SmartKeys window, touch the arrow


key to go to the next page and select

password 14432 and select Enter. HR

screen. The default volume of the QRS
tone is 1.

The training starts in Demo mode.


If you want to switch off the QRS tone first, please refer to “Changing the QRS Volume” on page 27.
Keep in mind that all settings and collected values are reset when switching back from Demo to
Monitoring mode. If you switched off the QRS tone in demo mode, you need to do it again in
Monitoring mode.
During this training, you need to switch between Demo and Monitoring mode. The operating mode
you need for each task is indicated as shown here.

Exiting Demo Mode


To exit the Demo Mode perform the following steps:
1 Select the flashing Demo field or flag on the
screen or cycle power to exit the Demo DEMO D E M O
mode.
2 From the Operating Modes menu, select

Admitting the Patient

1 The alarm limits and paced status are


displayed near the HR numeric. The lead HR
label and the filter label are shown next to M
the ECG wave.
Select the HR numeric to open the Setup
ECG menu.
2 In the Setup ECG menu, select
Paced:No and toggle between Yes and HR
No. Notice the changes in the ECG wave. M
The paced symbol is displayed below the
HR label. The default for the Profile Adult
is Paced:Yes.
3 In the Setup ECG menu, scroll down and
select Placement. This opens the ECG
Placement menu. Switch to EASI lead M
placement. Note that the ECG wave is now
labeled EASI. If you are using the EASI lead EASI
placement, you must change Placement
to EASI.
4 Mark the Standard 5-lead placement in the
graphic.

Acquiring Respiration Data


Demo Mode Not all monitored measurements are visible on the screen at the same time. For example, the
Respiration Rate (RR) is not shown on the current screen. However, if you are using a suitable ECG
cable, the monitor measures RR. Note that orange colored ECG cables do not support the RR
measurement.
1 Press the Main Screen key to open the
Change Screen menu.

2 In the Change Screen menu, select

correctly sized cuff to your arm and connect the NBP tubing to the monitor.

1 Press the Silence key to acknowledge the


alarm. This switches off the alarm tone and
lamps, and the alarm message gets a check
mark. The numeric still flashes.
2 You will get an audible reminder of alarm EXTREME BRADY
conditions that remain active after you have
acknowledged the alarm, if configured. The
alarm message with the check mark persists
on the monitor.
3 Select the HR numeric to open the Setup
ECG menu. Setup ECG

1 Press the Alarms key. This switches off the


monitor’s alarming capabilities for the pre-

Ending a Case
Discharging the Patient
A discharge gives you a clean start for your new patient as it resets the monitor to its default profile and
clears all old patient information. You should perform a discharge even if your previous patient was not
admitted.

Starting an End Case Procedure


The End Case procedure performs three functions:
• prints out any configured end case reports
• discharges the patient:
– erases all patient trend data
– resets settings to defaults
• places the monitor into Standby.

Checking Battery Status


Demo Mode

1 Disconnect the monitor from the external


power supply. The estimated monitoring
time with the remaining battery power
appears directly below the battery symbol
in the right bottom corner of the screen.
2 Select the battery symbol to open the
Battery Status menu. From the Battery Battery Status
Status menu, select Battery to get TimeToEmpty: 2:37 hrs

Replacing a Battery

1 Press the battery eject button to release the


battery.

2 To change a battery you have a maximum


of 15 seconds before the !!INSERT !!INSERT BATTERY
BATTERY INOP is activated.
If you silence this INOP, it will
automatically re-alarm after 10 seconds.
Inserting a battery silences the INOP.

Demo Mode

1 Press the black dot marked PUSH on the


labeled side of the battery. If all LEDs are
lit, the battery is fully charged. If only one
LED is lit, there is 25% or less charge left.
