training tool. For full operating instructions and safety-related information, it is essential to read the
Instructions for Use. Before monitoring patients you must have a comprehensive understanding of
patient monitoring.

To get familiar with your monitor, you go step-by-step from task to task. These tasks are indicated by a
pointing finger symbol.
Places where you need to refer to the Instructions for Use are indicated by a book symbol.
Note that your monitor may have additional measurements to those covered in this training guide.

Competency Statement
The trainee will be able to perform the basic monitoring functions.
Performance Objectives
The following objectives provide evidence of minimum achievement of the above competency:
• The trainee will be able to explain or demonstrate the basic functions of the
– monitor controls, indicators and connectors
– operation and navigation using the touchscreen and the SmartKeys.
– Measurement values and waves
• The trainee will be able to acquire, to manage, and to evaluate data from the following:
– Admission and discharge
– SpO2
– Pulse
– ECG
– Respiration rate
– Noninvasive blood pressure
• The trainee will be able to check and replace the battery.

find it useful to identify the numbered items in the space provided. Otherwise you can proceed straight
to the first section “Starting Monitoring”.

correctly sized cuff to your arm and connect the NBP tubing to the monitor.

Discharging the Patient
A discharge gives you a clean start for your new patient as it resets the monitor to its default profile and
clears all old patient information. You should perform a discharge even if your previous patient was not
admitted.
