Activity 1
The following situation requires negotiation. Decide how you would start and conduct the
negotiation on behalf of Ali and Ahmad and write the dialogue in the space given. You
should have greetings and introduction, small talk, signal to start and bargaining and making
concessions. You are not required to complete the negotiation.

Situation A
Ali : You are the purchasing manager of Boh Tea Limited and your company is
interested in changing the packaging of its green tea range. Hence, you decide
to arrange for a meeting with a supplier from Best Packaging and negotiate the
price and terms and conditions of the packaging.

Ahmad : You are the supplier of Best Packaging Limited and your client wants to
negotiate the price and terms and conditions of the packaging for his or her
green tea range.

Ali: Hi Ahmad. How are you doing today? I’m the purchasing manager of Boh Tea Limited.
Well, our company is considering changing the packaging for our green tea range.
Following some research and design, we have agreed to use your company as our latest
design's supplier.

Ahmad: Hi Mr. Ali, I’m doing fine and it's a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for
considering us to be a part of your business. We will indeed be delighted to assist and
work with you. How may I get to assist you?

Ali: Currently, my company has made the decision to change the packaging of our green
tea range. We have gone through your company’s design catalogue and we are interested
with some of the designs that your company offer. Do your company have the ability to
produce a large number of units to us with an affordable price package?

Ahmad: Yes, sure. Generally, we will have to see how much and what kind of design your
company wants us to create before we can proceed. But before that, Mr. Ali, could you
please tell me exactly what sort of quantities you are searching for?

Ali: As of now, we are considering an initial quantity of about 80,000 units. If we are totally
satisfied with the design, there’s a high possibility for us to increase the quantity sooner. I
had like to know how much one unit costs.

Ahmad: Yes, of course. We will consider giving you a unit price of about RM 1.80 based
on the quantity you require. Just to let you know, we use high quality packaging and
places a priority on customer satisfaction.

Ali: That’s great to hear. But will I get one unit for RM1.40? This is because our company
is figuring a price that is comparable. We would also place an order for the next batch
later. Is it possible for me to get that price? We seriously hope that we will be able to
obtain it.

Ahmad: I’m so sorry Mr. Ali. For one unit, I can only give you RM 1.80. Since my manager
is not present today, I am unable to make any decisions about your negotiation at this
time. In fact, there are certain terms and conditions that must be adhered to.

Ali: I get it. What about we schedule a meeting with your manager to go through this in
more detail? So that we'll have a wonderful and direct conversation about this and other
matters.

Ahmad: Yes, of course. It is the most effective method. When would you like to meet and
when are you reachable?

Ali: Shall we meet at your company’s lobby on 1st June 2021 at 11 a.m. Is that okay with
you?

Ahmad: Sure will do. But unless if there’s any changes, I'll let you know as soon as
possible. Is it possible for you to hand over your contact information?

Ali: Here it is, my business card for you. You can reach out to me for anything.

Ahmad: Thank you so much.

Ali: You are most welcome. We will see again soon.
