6.3. Perforated plate

We consider here a perforated plate subjected to tension on its


opposite faces, see Fig. 6-7(a). As the hole is located at the center of
the plate, two cracks are expected to propagate simultaneously in
both ligaments until the complete failure occurs. Nevertheless a
possible loss of symmetry can be encountered, mainly because of
mesh imperfections. Moreover, an unstable propagation resulting
in snap-backs is expected. This test aims to assess the robustness
of the approach in the case of complex propagations involving mul-
ti-cracking in the presence of snap-backs, thus requiring the use of
