Lesson 2 - Part 1 Home Management

 Shelter is one of the basic needs of man. It makes us safe from harm and other undesirable
elements.
 Men need house in order to live. It should be a place where one can take a rest and live
comfortably but more importantly. One needs a home where there is a sense of security and
real treasures brought about by love and affection from parents, siblings and other
members of the family.

Effective of Home Management

 Home management means making the most and the best of the available resources for the
home and the family and see to it that the members get along well with one another to
ensure the achievement of the family goals.
Home management is the utilization of human and physical resources to maximize
individual and familial development within the home one’s home.
It provides healthy and good living conditions for individuals, families, and communities
helping them to cope with the present trends in needs and in technology.

Factors to Consider in Home Management

Before the family execute the steps in effective home management process they should have
identified their family goals. These are the real things, object, purpose or any desires the
family is aiming to accomplish or attained.
It provides healthy and good living conditions for individuals, families, and communities
helping them to cope with the present trends I needs in technology.

1. Activities of the family –


Activities of each family member must be well manage and properly coordinated. It
should not create conflict with regards to time, energy & relationship with other
members.

2. Available Resources –
Family resources should be effectively used classified as:

1. Human Resources - refers to personal characteristic possess by a person like his ability,
skills, attitude, knowledge.

2. Non-human Resources - also known as material resources. like, washing machine,


computer, gadgets, rice cooker, etc.

3. Priorities of the family –


The family should list down their needs in such a way that the less important ones will be less
favored and those important ones will be given priorities.

4. The family values, abilities and interest have great influences on the management
process –
5. Condition in the community –
The area of residence, the distance of the home from school, the location of work,
church, market and other important places in the environment has something to do in
the management of the home.

Home must be accessible to different Important Places in the community.

Helpful Tips in Effective Home Management


1. Cooperation among the family – Managing a home is not a one man job. All family
members should do their part in making the home livable.
2. Wise use of the family resources – avoid waste, family members should realized
their responsibility as essential part of a successful family life. The desires to
accomplish the job given to them contribute towards the fulfillment of family goals.
3. Sense of responsibility among the family members – each family member should
realized their responsibility as essential part of a successful family life.
4. Establish entrepreneurial activities at home – family members who have interest
and skill can engage in an income operating activities; like handicraft work, cooking
baking and help add to the family income.

Steps in Home Management


1. PLANNING – means careful formulation of goals and thinking all the possible
ways of attaining the set goals.
2. ORGANIZING – is the process of finding out the proper relationship of work,
people, and other resources and channeling authorities and responsibility.
3. DIRECTING – It checks work and performance in accordance with the planned
activities. It includes the changing of plan when it is necessary or when there are
unavailable hitches.
4. EVALUATING – is the check-up process. It means assessing the performance, the
effect of the activity and the quality of the end product.
Lesson 2 - Part 2 Managing Ones Time Energy

Time and Energy are intangible resources, things that you cannot see, touch, hear or taste but which
are real, time and energy resources are closely related and supplement each other.

It is possible for you to have plenty time but you may lack the energy because of fatigue or your
goals may demand more than the time available to accomplish them.

Time - is a measurable period during which an action, a process or condition exist or continue.

- it is one resources that is equally provided, but people differ in the way they use it.

- time is useless when not use correctly. Do not take time for granted because it is
irreplaceable resources that cannot be restored.

Time is Gold - - - - -”a minute gone is gone forever”. Time lost will never be regained.

Energy – is the resources for producing the power or ability to do work.

- Energy management is different and more problematic than Time management. You can
always count on 24 hours a day when making time plan but cannot count how much energy you
have to carry on the activities planned.

- Good management of energy ensures the attainment of both your need and wants.

- Energy is wisely used when you consider it in relation to time and money in attaining
your priority goal.

WISE USE OF TIME AND ENERGY:

Planning the wise use of time and energy will result in doing what you have to do and what you
want to do in a given period of time.

Plan to use your time and energy for needs before you spend it for wants. It is more helpful if we
prepare a time and activity plan before we do any activity.

TIME and ENERGY - are valuable resources that should be used effectively in order to achieve
important goals or needs of the family.

REMINDERS IN MANAGING ONE’S TIME AND ENERGY:

1. Examine the use of time and energy.

2. Avoid wasting of time.

3. Have time and activity plan.

4. Make a simple, flexible and workable plan.


5. Make a long term planning.

PREPARING A TIME AND ACTIVITY PLAN

Managing energy is similar to managing time. It involves the making of Time and Activity Plan, as
well as carrying them out & evaluating the result.

Time Plan - is a table listing all the event or activities that should be done for a particular period of
time.

IMPORTANCE OF TIME AND ACTIVITY PLAN

1. It tell how long an activity should be accomplish in a given period of time.

2. It helps identify & give priorities to activities, listing them down from the most important one’s
to the least important.

3. Light task & heavy task can be distributed with in the day or week which will lessen stress &
fatigue of the worker.

4. It helps find proper time for rest and family recreational activities.

 However, no matter how long or short the activity plan, always remember to make it
simple , flexible & workable.

Lesson 2 - Part 3 Work Simplification

Principles of work Simplification:

One should always find quick and easy way on how to get things done. In doing household chores,
the use of time & energy can be economized & have a better result by applying Work Simplification

Work Simplification – are techniques, methods or ways used to make work easy, simple and fast
thus spending least amount of time and energy.

Six Work Simplification Techniques

1. Choose & accomplish the task in accordance to your priorities - do not waste your time doing the
chores which are not listed in your plan for the day.

2. Finish doing one task before starting another one – be systematic in working. You cannot start
different task at the same time & left them undone later.

3. Maintaining orderliness lessen work – this can be done by keeping all the things in their proper
places within easy reach.
