Minutes for Peal Lake PRD Meeting held on May 27th 2017

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Roger Volden at 8:30 am

• Roger notified those in attendance that Treasurer Mark Leissring is going to be leaving
the board and we will need a person to fill the 1 year remaining on his term.
Randy Rucks is taking over the treasurer position at least temporarily at this point.
• The minutes from the Labor Day 2016 meeting were read and approved.
• Initial comments were made regarding the reminder that wake surfers and that larger
wake that they create. Rod Lungwitz mentioned that at the point where he is located
they are very concerned and he has placed video looking out at the point should large
waves result in injury to those on their beach. Roger mentioned that there is not a great
deal that can be done regarding the wake surf boats but if they are overloaded as
someone mentioned that DNR could possibly cite them.
• Walkers were reminded to make sure they walk with the traffic and people need to
make sure they drive with care around the lake.
• Water clarity was given: 59 degrees temp at 3 feet with 28ft visibility
Temps were 44 degrees at 40 ft.

Treasurer Report;

All bills have been paid thru May 24th. $ 5422.02 in treasury, and $95,028.55 in the Water
Quality Fund. The most recent expense was mailing and stamps $239.41.

Motion made/seconded and approved report.

• Clean Boat Clean Water program will continue this season. We received a grant of
$3600.00 and we will play $1700. We are always looking for volunteers to assist and
schedule can be found on the website. John Bell who worked last year will be the
primary person again this year.
• Milfoil was evaluated on May 8th pretty much the same with a little more west of the
boat landing. Additional options such as divers cleaning milfoil could be done however
there may be some downside to it and will need to be evaluated further (no action
taken at this time). A chemical treatment was done on the milfoil and areas where it
occurred were notified.
• A survey was sent to those not in the PRD near the lake to determine interest in being
made a part of the PRD. Initial response from those who have replied looks like the
majority would prefer not to be a part of the PRD. As of this meeting there have been 28
no’s and 15 yes responses. This will be revisited at the July meeting. There was some
brief discussion on how votes would be counted if they were added to the PRD if there

were two names on the deed then they would have two votes otherwise it would be 1
vote.
• Limits on pan fish of 10 fish of 1 species has moved through the conservation congress
and the state will at some point make a decision on passage.

New Business:

• Clean Sweep for getting rid of chemical items is available and information can be
found on the PRD website.
• Nick Thomas spoke about the dumpster that he has set up across from the
campground that can be used for those on the lake with a donation of a $2.00 per
bag that you place in the dumpster. We will check on that progress at the July
meeting.
• Nick Thomas also talked of the possibility of setting up fish cribs per DNR rules. He
was going to try a few over the winter however the ice going out when it did
prevented that. However he hopes to continue with that project and doing research
for next year. He also discussed the putting of a Christmas tree under the dock as a
way to improve structure and he says he did that on his dock and was amazed at the
initial results.
• Vern discussed the potential for fish stocking as there is $2500 in the budget. The
options would be perch or crappies and that would be done in the fall. This will be
placed on the July agenda for further discussion and action if any.
• The Post Office Bar in Redgranite will hold a fundraiser on August 19th. Proceeds will
go toward fish stocking and habitat. More details in July as well.
• There was an update on lake residents who have passed away or are new to the
lake.

Motion made/seconded and approved to adjourn meeting.
