Session 3: Providing Warmth and Structure
Directions: Read the following situations. How do you provide warmth and structure? Write your answer under

Situation
1.Your Grade 2 learner comes from a very poor
family. Her parents are supportive but with low
educational attainment, and as such cannot
support her in terms of her academic needs.
You want to instill in her good study habits and
develop independent learning.
2. Your see that your Grade 11 learner is
getting upset because his participation in your
online class is constantly interrupted by poor
internet connection on his side. In his
frustration, he just left the class ahead of time.
Warmth
Do home visits and see the real situation of
the family
Do a home visit to the student and know
what happened why she left the class that
soon… and check if the connection is really
that bad
Structure
You can ask the parents if there is somebody
in the family or their neighbors who can help
the student needs in terms of academic
activities
You can ask the student if there is any other
place he can stay during their online class so
that she wont be interrupted.
