Ashley planned to drive from New York to California to attend college. However, shortly
after departing, she became uncertain about which roads to take and called her parents
for assistance with directions. Because she was distracted, she drove off the side of the
road and grazed the front bumper of her car on the guardrail. Fortunately, thee car was
not too badly damaged, so she continued on her journey. Although she ultimately made
it to California, She had a lingering fear of guardrails for several months following her
experience.

● Explain how retinal disparity might have helped Ashley drive from NY to Cali
● Explain how inattentional blindness might have led Ashley to have a negative
experience on her trip from NY to Cali.
Ashley’s retinal disparity, the difference in the images in both of her eyes might have assisted
her in seeing obstacles in the road that she would not have seen with more linear retinal
function. She maybe might have seen how close that she was to the rail out of the side of her
view, and that could have helped her in avoiding the small accident she suffered.

The distraction of her phone and her parents could have made her miss something that was still
entirely in her vision, like the guardrail approaching from her side. But the Inattentional
blindness allowed her to focus on her phone to the point to where she missed something in her
view that could have assisted in preventing the accident.

Sachio traveled to a prestigious college to audition for a music scholarship. After he

arrived, he learned that his audition had been rescheduled for late in the day. Sachio
was required to play several difficult pieces on his saxophone and interview with the
judges. Just before leaving campus, he was offered a full scholarship to the college.

Explain how each of the following might have contributed to the success of Sachio’s
visit.

Sachio’s auditory cues of what he might have heard earlier in the day, along with this ability to
listen to and learn music most likely assisted hi, im his audition through the Basilar Membrane.

Sachio’s practice, his development and ease of knowing what he was required to play and then
his execution of playing his piece for the school were all assisted through his somatosensory
cortex, taking the information of what he is supposed to be playing, the rhythm and tempo of the
music, and then afterwards the questions of the interviewer to generate a reaction, or a
response.
