Title: Virtual Seminar- Workshop on Scriptwriting and

Broadcasting for Radio Instruction

Date: April 30, 2021

The program was formally opened by the host, Mrs. Grace Tan at 8:30- 9:00
in the morning presenting the first speakers, Ms. May Joy Calcaben and Mr.
Diosdado Bulagao Jr. who delivered a lecture about The Introduction on School-on-
air for Remote Teaching and Learning and its Characteristics followed by the
Principles of Radio Scriptwriting which also talked about treatments/approaches in
developing scripts and basic radio script formatting.

The next speaker Friendly Ann Estoque then proceeded to talk about How to
Record Narration in Radio-Based instruction wherein she shared how
experimenting with free sound recording and editing software programs led her to
find Audacity as the best among them. Below is a simple instruction on how to
record using Audacity.

 Install Audacity from the source.

 Open the program.
 Click the record button.
 Say narration using your microphone.
 After completion of the recording, click the pause button.

Below is the necessary buttons in Audacity to record and edit your

narration.
The next speakers Mary Chris Balladares and Mr. Lourence Reyes talked
about audio-editing for Radio-Based Instruction and presented the five best audio-
editing for Android which are the following: Voicepro, Music Editor, Wave Editor,
Audio Evolution Mobile Studio and Lex Audio Editor. A sample edited audio using
audio evolution studio and voice pro were listened to by the audience. Below is the
step by step procedure using Voice Pro.

1. Press the red Record button to see the Record File Settings. Voice Record Pro
allows you to record in many different file formats. Our project uses 44.1kHz WAV
files for best sound quality and compatibility with editing software.

2. Click “Advanced” Apply these settings:

Record Format: WAV (PCM) Sample Rate: 44,100 Hz
Channels: Mono or Stereo (very few phones have stereo mics)
Once these settings are used, they will be saved as the default, so you only have to
do this once.

2. Save the audio to your audio list. It is advised to make a separate folder.

The final topic which was Broadcasting in Radio-based Instruction was

presented by Mr. Louie Jalapadan and Mrs. Sie-Cel Ann Jalapadan. Radio-based
instruction is quite challenging because radio is not a visual medium. However,
tips and suggestions were given to make it more effective and interesting to the
target listeners who are the students.
 It is better to talk normally because the normal you talk, the better you
sound.
 Smile as you talk since it affects your audio.
 Use fewer sound effects to avoid distraction making sure you choose the
right background music for your lesson. For example, for sports related
lesson you may have Eye of the Tiger.
 Make sure the script is specially written for the radio.
The virtual seminar-workshop concluded at 12:00 noon with an open question and
answer.
