REASON FOR SELECTION

Tombim Services Limited is selected for the case study because of its unique name in the
onshore and offshore fabrication services in Nigeria oil and gas sector. Since inception in
June 1997, it had outweighed most competitors in the environment with its strategic technical
ethics, organizational behavior and top quality services and products geared by its
exceptional client’s service and progression with technology, from conceptual design, site
surveys and feasibility studies, development of engineering schematics which are major
factors in the construction business in oil and gas to help improve client’s relationship
management, employee activities, real-time transmission system.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF OPERATION

Tombim is a household name in onshore and Offshore Installation and Commissioning


including start-up assistance services for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. They are experts
in piping installation, pipeline installation, deck extension and installation, platform
installation, hook-up & tie-in installations. They offers integrated construction, maintenance
planning and delivery resourcing solution to provide efficient and high-quality shutdown
outcomes from lead up preparation work through to commissioning, handover and to the
completion of close out documentation.

Tombim in collaboration with their affiliated original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has
been providing material procurement and supply services to the oil and gas industry in
Nigeria. The organization has a sound engineering base that provides answers to their clients’
needs starting from conceptual design, site surveys and feasibility studies, development of
engineering schematics, CAD shop drawing design, development of material take off list,
conducting 3D laser scanning, fabrication and pipe fit assurances and installation engineering
etc. The organizational project management services includes but not limited to project
planning, job / task sequencing, work execution sequencing and categorization, scheduling,
project costing and evaluation, project monitoring and control, interface management,
SIMOPs management, scope verification and review, work pack preparation and job card
preparation etc. Their pool of engineers and project managers have the depth of industry
experience to understand the operational requirements and challenges specific to onshore and
offshore facilities.

The organizational set of quality management principles in order to establish an effective


management system that focus on customer needs, expectations and satisfaction. The
organization top management establish unity of purpose and direction, they create and
maintain the internal environment in which people can become fully involved in achieving
the organization’s objectives. To ensure leadership at every level, the top management
comprising of the managing director and the executive directors, managers,
process/departmental heads and individuals takes responsibility for overseeing the day to day
running of the organization at their various levels. People at all levels are the essence of the
organization and their full involvement enables their competencies and abilities to be used to
deliver value for the organization’s benefit and allow the organization to achieve her goals
including quality objectives.

Tombim efficiently achieves her desired result by managing activities and related resources
as a process which incorporates the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle and risk-based
thinking. The process interactions and sequence comprise of the input-output relationships
that tie the processes together to achieve the organization’s business objectives.
Understanding and managing the interrelated processes as a system contributes to Tombim’s
effectiveness and efficiency in achieving her intended results. This approach enables Tombim
to control the interrelationships and interdependencies among the processes of the system, so
that the overall performance of organization can be enhanced and improved upon.

Tombim deploys and plows back the correction(s), corrective action(s), continual
improvements, breakthrough change(s), innovation and re-organization in its quality
management system to ensure that it is continually improved. Decisions from management
reviews, findings from internal audits, results of monitoring, measurement, analysis and
evaluation, customer feedbacks, reports of nonconformities etc. are reviewed and action plans
implemented, identified changes are implemented to ensure improvement within the system.
New ideas are welcomed, new and improved technologies are embraced, outdated processes
are discarded, and training and development are provided to employees to ensure that tombim
satisfies the clients today and also take care of their future needs. These inputs for
improvements are also discussed in the Management Reviews.
