A Semi-Detailed Lesson plan in Mathematics

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students can be able to:

a. define and illustrate polygons; and

b. name polygons according to their number of sides.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Polygons
Reference: Experiential Unified mathematics 7 pp. 275-277
Materials: Cartolina, pen, tape, ruler, shapes
Values Integration: Fairness

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Setting of Standard

B. Lesson Proper

a. Review
The teacher will recapitulate the previous topic about
addition of integers.

b. Motivation
The teacher will show a video presentation entitled
“Agadoo” and the pupils will follow the actions in
the video.

c. Activity
The teacher will show to the pupils the mystery box of
knowledge with real objects (makeup kit, star, book,
box, clip) inside. The teacher call one of their
pupils to pick one objects inside and tell the names,
shapes and the number of sides of an objects.
d. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss about polygons and the type
of polygons according to their sides.

What is polygon?

 In geometry, a polygon can be defined as a flat or plane, two-

dimensional closed shape with straight sides. It does not
have curved sides.
 A polygon is a shape with straight sides. It is a Greek word that literally
means many-angle.

Here are a few examples of polygons.

The parts of a polygon

1. Sides- straight line segment that make up polygons.

2. Vertices- are points where the sides intersect.
3. Angles- are form by the intersecting lines.

Closed shape
A shape that the sides are connected.

Open shape
The types of polygons are usually classified by the number of sides they have.
Below are example of polygons with their corresponding number of sides.

Number of sides Name of Polygons

3 Triangle
4 Quadrilateral
5 Pentagon
6 Hexatagon
7 Heptagon
8 Octagon
9 Nonagon
10 Decagon
11 Undecagon
12 Dodecagon
n N-gon

e. Application
The teacher will ask the learners to list down atleast
five (5) examples of real objects or things that have
shapes.

IV. Evaluation

Match set A to the correct answer to set B.

A B
1.
. . 4

2.
. . 7

3. . . 5

4.

______ 1. 9 sides
______ 2. 3 sides
______ 3. 5 sides
______ 4. 7 sides
