I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of
shapes and sizes, and geometric relationships.
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate and
solve accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a
polygon.
C. Learning At the end of the lesson the students can:
Competencies/Objectives a) Identify triangles, squares, rectangles, regular pentagons, and

AMEN. AMEN.

Good morning class. How was your day? Good morning ma'am, we're
doing great ma'am.
That's good to hear.

Are there any absentees today? None ma'am.

Okay very good.

A. Reviewing previous lesson ELICIT
or presenting the new lesson
Drill: Look around our classroom. What

Okay very good!

Review: Can someone recall what was

our previous lesson? The topic that we discussed
last meeting ma'am was all
about quadrilaterals

Okay, can you define what is

quadrilateral? A quadrilateral is a polygon
that has exactly four sides
ma'am.

Exactly! Give me an example of

quadrilaterals.
Square ma'am.

Very good! so you have really learned

about our last topic.

This time, I will show you pictures of

different polygons and you need to tell
me what type of polygon it is. Is that
clear class? Yes ma'am.

That is triangle ma'am.

Square ma'am

Rectangle ma'am
Pentagon ma'am

Hexagon ma'am

Okay very good! I think all of you are

already familiar with polygons.
B. Establishing a purpose for ENGAGE
the lesson
C. Presenting Based on the pictures that I have
examples/instances of the showed you earlier with regards to
new lesson different types of polygons.

Are they similar?

They are different in shapes

They have different sides and

from your observations.

Very good! Then can you tell us the (The students will give their
sides and angles of those polygons? answers)
(triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon,
hexagon)
D. Discussing new concepts EXPLORE
and practicing new skills # 1
E. Discussing new concepts Now, I want you to group yourselves
and practicing new skills # 2 into 5. I will assign in each group of
what polygons you are going to have.
After that, you need to construct your
chosen polygon in the illustration board (The students group
with the following tools: themselves into 5)

 Compass
 Straightedge
 Paper

to use as long as at the end of the time,
you can make an exact image of that

polygon. Did you understand class?

You may start now.

Yes ma'am.
Time's up! Are you all done?

F. Developing mastery EXPLAIN

Let us examine and hear your thoughts

on how you make your output.

Each group will have a representative to

present their work and explain the
process in constructing the polygon.
(The students start
(The teacher will assist the learners in presenting explaining their

Okay, how did you manage to construct By the use of the tools
a polygon? ma'am, we manage to draw a
line and make a curve in the
polygons ma'am

From your observations, what are the All its angles are the same
things you have seen in making the measure and all its sides are
polygons? in the same length ma'am.

Based on your works, can you say that (The students will give their

How about in circle? What are your
ways in making it?
Since the circle ma'am is 360°
and by the help of compass,
we manage to make a circle
because the radius is already
been given.

Yes! That's correct. How about the

triangle? Is it equilateral?
We managed to make an
equilateral triangle ma'am
because first thing we do is to
identify it's angles which is
60° in each side and also by

lesson
The most basic example of a regular
polygon is an equilateral triangle, a
triangle with three congruent sides and
three congruent angles. Squares are
also regular polygons, because all their
angles are the same (90°) and all their
sides are the same length.

Regular polygons with five or more

sides do not have special names.
Instead, the word regular is used to
describe them. For example, a regular
hexagon is a hexagon (6 sided polygon)
whose angles are all the same measure
and sides are all the same length.

All regular polygons have rotation

symmetry. This means that a rotation of
less than 360° will carry the regular
polygon onto itself. In fact, a regular n-
sided polygon has rotation symmetry
for any multiple of 360°/n.
This time, get a one whole sheet of (The students will start
paper, and construct a regular hexagon answering)
that divided into six congruent triangles.

They are equilateral triangles.

Processing Question: The six triangles are
congruent, so the six

vertices must be congruent.
This means the six triangles
are all isosceles.

I. Evaluating learning EVALUATE

Conduct a spin-off Power of Two

(Bellanca, 2009) for this activity.
(Sample site:
http://www.wikihow.com/Construct- (The students will do the
Regular-Polygons- activity)
Using-a-Circle).

a. Ask the students to follow the

instructions on how to construct a
regular pentagon and hexagon
individually.

b. When all the students have finished

the task, ask them to form pairs.

c. Instruct each pair to discuss and

compare their construction.
J. Additional activities for EXTEND (The students will do the
application or remediation task)
1. Construct an equilateral triangle.

2. Explain why your process for

constructing equilateral triangles works.
