Instructions: Watch Stephen Spielberg’s science fiction drama film. A. I: Artificial

Intelligence (2001). After watching the film, reflect on the story of David, a childlike
android uniquely programmed with the ability to love, and write a 200-300 word essay
on the topic. “Why the future doesn’t need us? Cite particular scenes and insights from
movie to support your arguments.

AI: Artificial Intelligence

AI: Artificial Intelligence was written and directed by Steven Spielberg and
published in 2001. The story is all about David, the humanoid robot who was
programmed with the ability to love. David was given to Henry and Monica Swinton as
temporary replacement to his son, Martin who’s diagnosed to a rare disease. The
couple treat David as their child but one day Martin was came back. Martin was jealous
of David so he dictates David to cut his mother hair while sleeping and in the pool party
when Martin’s friend threatened David as he grabbed Martin for his protection but they
ended up falling on the swimming pool. Monica decided to abandoned David, she left
David in middle of the forest. David discovered about the destroyed Mecha, he was
captured by humans together with other Mecha like him luckily they saved. David and
Gigolo Joe travelled to Rouge City where Dr. Know located, a holographic answer
engine. He guide David and Gigolo Joe to the top of Rockefeller which he meet his twin
robot. He destroyed it because he thought he was unique then he met Professor Hobby,
his creator. David attempted suicide as he jump into the water and he discovered the
blue fairy. He was stuck in the bottom of the water in thousand years. He was
discovered by aliens and study about his past life. At the end, he able to be with his
mother named Monica.

Why the future does not need us? In the beginning of the movie AI: Artificial
Intelligence shows us that the world is experiencing global warming and the sea levels
are rising as kills human being so the experts created Mechanical Humanoid named
David as substitute to Henry’s and Monica’s son. Nowadays, Planet Earth was
experiencing global warming because of humans’ cruelty. Human totally losing
humanity as they destroy nature which is the main source of our daily needs and even
harm others that’s why we experiencing disasters and violence. As time passed by, new
technologies were created and will be create. We really can’t tell what the future looks
like. It could be possible that robots and machine will be more powerful to human and
they can replace us like they can play the role as a human and do all the things we do.
In the end of the story, David was stuck in the ice about thousand years as he
remembers about his mother and his past life. In the future only our recognition will be
remember about us but it can’t save the future, I believe that the earth can survive itself
like million years ago when humans are not yet exist and the future generation have
their own ways to save their selves.
