1. Define Industrial Revolution. What changes did it bring about?

 The Industrial Revolution transform economies from agricultural and

handicrafts based dominated into a large scale based economies were factory
system, machinery and new power sources created and exist to make the economy
more productive and efficient. The Industrial Revolution was a fundamental
change in the way goods were produced, from human labor to machines.

 The Industrial Revolution change human life drastically. It gives a lot of

opportunities to the people. Emergence of Industrial Revolution is the reason why
a lot of tools and machines invented to replace human labor. New energy sources
were developed to power the new machinery. It Increased use of metals and
minerals such as Aluminum, coal, copper, iron, etc. the transportation improves
due to the invention of steam engines and different automobiles in terms of
communication the telephone, telegraph and radio were invented. Industrial
revolution brought a lot of development in the society wherein capitalism, mass
production, factory system, research development, rural to urban migration were
develop and coexist in the society.

C. Exercises
Answer the following questions.

2. How did the textile industry lead to industrial revolution?

 Textile is the first industry to be industrialized. Before the Industrial

Revolution, textiles were made by hand in the “cottage industry”, where materials
would be brought to homes and picked up when the textiles were finished. This
allowed for workers to decide their own schedules and was largely unproductive.
Because Britain was the main supplier of textiles overseas, it needed a new way to
meet the large demand for textiles. New technological innovations such as
Hargreaves’s “spinning jenny”, Richard Arkwright’s water frame, the Boulton and
Watt steam engine, and Faraday Flying shuttle improved the quality of thread and
the speed it took to produce. This invention really helps the Britain to improve the
textile Industry. It three times more effective and make work easier than in a
traditional way of sewing and waving. Because of this inventions, large scale of
textile produces and it is the reason why textile industry become industrialized.

3. What was the agricultural revolution in the 19th and early 20th
century?

 Early 20th century agriculture was labor intensive, and it took place on a
large number of small, diversified farms in rural areas where more than half of the
U.S. population lived. The Agricultural Revolution, the unprecedented increase in
agricultural production in Britain between the mid-17th and late 19th centuries, was
linked to such new agricultural practices as crop rotation, selective breeding, and a
more productive use of arable land. Aside from that a tools and machine were
invented to place human labor and transfer crops from one place to another.
4. What were the political effects of the industrial revolution?

 As we have seen, the industrial revolution was transforming Britain

much more quickly than any other European country. The economic
transformation and resulting social changes meant that a political system that
was designed to protect the interests of landowners in a largely rural country
was increasingly obsolete. The Industrial Revolution had many positive effects.
Among those was an increase in wealth, the production of goods, and the
standard of living.

 Industrial Revolution also brought capitalism wherein a system of

organizing a society's economy in which ownership of machines and factories
is private, rather than public. Communism and Socialism also exist in the first
phase of Industrial Revolution Wherein a form of government in which all the
people own property, including both land and capital, in common. A political
and economic system in which the people control both the government and
also major elements of the economy, such as owning (or tightly regulating)
factories.

5. Is industrialization a curse or a blessing? Defend your

answer.

 For me industrialization is not a curse nor rather a blessing. I consider it

as an opportunity instead of calling it as a blessing. Opportunity is an
appropriate word which describe the industrialization because as a time passes
by it still working, giving lots of opportunities to the people. When
Industrialization occur human life changes drastically and up until now it
continues emerging. A blessing for me is a rare opportunity and sometimes it
occurs unexpectedly, blessing exist because people’s belief in superstition like
for example if you do good things to other then you may receive a blessing. It’s
like a concept of superstitious belief. But for me industrialization arise because
people need to create something new for the better because of some reasons
like, war and conflict. For example there is a huge conflict between country’s
then war began, people experience the reality wherein they are able to think
what they are going to do to avoid conflicts, wars and social problems, how can
they be more productive? Therefore, the industrialization occurs. Because of
necessity the process of inventing never ends. Through industrialization people
created opportunities that they can gain benefits as well as help them to live
better. It is not a blessing nor a curse. Although it has a disadvantages it doesn’t
mean it is a curse, as well as it has an advantages it doesn’t mean it is a blessing.
It is long term opportunity that beneficial to man. It is an opportunity, because
through industrialization people rise after a huge collapse came from an
unexpected event such as wars, through industrialization, lots of tools,
machines, and equipment’s were invented in able to make the peoples work
easier. And because of that people also established a society that we have
today. Although industrialization exist to make changes in the society and it is
equipping to be a useful tool for people to have in order to live freely and
peacefully, but it can never be resolve any kind of conflicts if people are the one
who change drastically into a monster that no one ever imagined. The real
essence of industrialization is to aid and help people to make a better change in
the society not to be the reason of the destruction.
6. Explain the revolution in transportation and
communication during that time.

 Before the emergence of industrial revolution, the means of

transportation is through canal barges pulled by mules, Ships powered by sails
and Horse-drawn wagons, carts, and carriages. This are the medium of
transportation being used before the emergence of industrial revolution.
Therefore, the production of goods and services is not that good enough and
of course it is really necessary to use human labor. Communication was not so
easy before the Industrial Revolution because people had to communicate by
horses and mail which did not always work for long distances. But when the
emergence of industrial revolution the means of transportation and
communication change into a more easiest way. During industrial revolution
train, Steamships, Trolleys and Automobiles were invented and have a huge
impact in terms of increasing the production, Search for more markets and raw
materials and it became the better and faster means of transportation. And in
terms of communication, telegraph, telephone, and radio were invented,
through this, the means of communication became possible even if it is far
away. This helps to make the work easier and it made human labor change into
machines.

7. What were the good and bad effects of the industrial

revolution on the socioeconomic system?

THE GOOD/ POSITIVE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION ON THE

SOCIO ECONOMIC SYSTEM
1. -It created infrastructure that gives opportunity to people to have a
job and as well as it is the reason why there is a lot of business
opportunities in the society
2. -It create modern inventions that helps people to make the work
easier and better
3. -It provide class structure
4. -erosion of gender inequality
5. -improvement of education system wherein there are lots of
innovation in education and every individual may have an access in
good quality education.
THE BAD/NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIALIZATION ON SOCIO
ECONOMIC SYSTEM
1. Exploitation of workers
2. Over population in urban cities
3. Rural - urban migration
4. Pollution and environmental damages cause of factory, nuclear
power plant and mining site, deforestation and many more
5. Child labor
