Topic: Newton’s Law of motion

objectives:
 Understand and define the concept of inertia and Newton’s first law of motion
 Differentiate the three categories of inertia
 Give an example or situations from daily life with this law
 Demonstrate Newton’s first law of motion
STRATEGY:
 INITIATIVE AND SELF- DIRECTION
DIRECTION: Students will give an example or situations from daily life with the Newton’s first
law of motion
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
DIRECTION: Students will perform an activity about Newton’s first law of motion
Activity 1 “Coin drop”
GUIDED QUESTIONS
Q1. What happens when you slowly pulled the card board? Explain
Q2.what happens when you flick the cardboard? Explain
Activity 2 “stack of coins”
Q1. What happens when you hit the coin at the bottom? Why is this so?

Contents:
 Force- is a vector quantity that that can cause change in the state of motion of an object
 Law of inertia- states that an object maintains its state of rest or motion with constant speed
along straight line unless acted upon by a net force.
 Net force- is the sum of all forces acting on an object.
 Mass- is the amount of matter that makes up an object. Mass is also the measure of inertia.
 Inertia- is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest,
Or the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion. Inertia comes from a
Latin word, “iners”meaning idle or lazy.
 The concept of first law of motion or inertia clearly explained why a car driver always needs to
fasten seatbelt all the time while driving.
 Friction-is a force between two surfaces that are sliding or trying to slide, across each other.

TOPIC: Newton’s Second Law of motion (Law of Acceleration)
OBJECTIVES:
 Understand and define the concept of Acceleration and Newton’s Second Law of motion
 State an example in real life situation about this law
 Solving a problem applying the second law of motion
STRATEGY:
Critical thinking
 Let the students solve a problem applying the second law of motion
CONCEPT:
 Law of acceleration states that when an object is acted upon by a net force it will accelerate.
This acceleration varies directly with the applied net force and inversely with the mass of the
object.
 The formula for acceleration is a= Fnet/mass or Fnet= ma
 Acceleration means a change in the speed of the object, in its direction, or in both its speed and
direction. The unit of measure of force is Newton and 1 Newton is equivalent to 1 kilogram-
meter/second squared.
 The unit of mass (kg)multiplied by the unit of acceleration (m/s2 )
Is equal to the unit of force, Newton (N). In symbols, N=1kg m/s2

TOPIC: Newton’s third law of motion (Law of interaction)
OBJECTIVES:

 Understand and define the concept of Newton’s third Law of motion

 Cite some applications of the third law of motion
 state some examples of situations showing action reaction pairs
STRATEGY:
 INITIATIVE AND SELF- DIRECTION
DIRECTION: Students will give an example or situations from daily life with the Newton’s third
law of motion
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
DIRECTION: Students will answer an activity given by the teacher
CONCEPTS:
 Law of interaction states that for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction.
Example:
 Hand hurts after slapping a person because the amount of force you exerted by the person is
equal to the force exerted by the person’s face on your hand.
 As the third law of motion states, forces always act in pairs.” If there is an action force, there is
also a reaction force”.
Example of Action Reaction Pairs
 ACTION: while swimming, you push the water backward
REACTION: The water pushes you forward
