5.0 LIFTING ARRANGEMENT

5.1 Lifting Position Option
There are two possible lifting options based on the ship position. The first is the side by side ships
position, and the second one is the bow to side ships position. Where can be concluded and to be
suggested to use the first option, the side by side, with reason, as follows:

1) Easier to arrange the mooring connection between the 2 ships.

2) Short crane rotation from 1 ship to another to move the lifting cargo, around 90 deg
only.

Figure 3. Stern to Side Ships Position.

Figure 4. Side by Side Ships Position

The inclination of the crane is one of the data that need to be prepared to estimate the maximum
load capacity of the crane. By using AutoCAD can be estimated the required inclination of the
crane, with result around 70deg, as shown below:

Figure 5. Crane Inclination Arrangement.

The recent draft condition of the Petroleum 115, as informed by the engineer at site, is around 8 m,
or the height from the surface water level (SWL) to the deck where the genset container will be
placed is around 18 m, as shown above.

5.2 Checking The Maximum Load Capacity For Lifting

The maximum load capacity of the crane in the above required angle, 70 deg, can be estimated by
checking at Table 2 above, and it is around 95.35 Ton. All the applied vertical load in this lifting
operation should be less than 95.35 Ton.

6.0 AGGREKO 20 FT CONTAINER SIZE GENERATOR UNIT

6.1 Dead Weight and Center of Gravity (CoG)

The dead weight of Aggreko 20 ft container size generator set for this lifting operation is obtained
from the Aggreko user manual power (NHC20/QSK50G4 2010), 19242 kgs, and the Center of
Gravity (CoG) of the generator set is to be assumed at the center of the generator set dimension,
6060L X 2440W X 2600H mm.

7.0 GUIDELINE AND STANDARD

The analysis of this lifting operation is guided by 3 guidelines and standards:
1) GL Noble Denton – Guidelines for Marine Lifting Operations, Revision 9, 2010 edition:
-Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF).
-CoG inaccuracy factor.
-Sling and shackles safety factor.
2) Freight Container Lifting Standard, Washington River Protection Solutions LLC,
Prepared for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of River Protection:
-Lifting method.
3) Hoisting and Rigging Safety Manual, Infrastructure Health & Safety Association,
Canada:
-Safety sling angles.
-Multiplication Factor for Snatch Block Load.
For the Freight Container Lifting Standard, which actually prepared by Washington River Protection
Solution LLC, or in other words this standard is actually for the lifting in river use, so that this
standard can be used as minimum standard if the lifting operation will be performed in open sea
environment.

7.1 Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF)

The dynamic amplification factor is obtained based on the GL Noble Denton guideline for lifting,
where for the offshore operation, with various gross weight (W), are tabulated below:

Figure 7. Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF) for Various Gross Weight

LIFTING ANALYSIS OF KM WAHYU
PANDANARAN

DOCUMENT NO. REV. 1

7.2 Center of Gravity Inaccuracy Factor

As mentioned above, where the Center of Gravity (CoG) of the generator set is to be assumed at
the center of the generator set, or in other words there is an inaccuracy in the exact position of the
CoG, thus, according to GL Noble Denton guideline, the CoG inaccuracy factor 1.10 shall be
applied to the lifting weight.

7.3 Lifting Method

According to the Freight Container Lifting Standard, because the lifting cargo of this operation is 20
ft loaded container, so that, the acceptable method for safety reason are these 2 following
methods:

1) Top Lift Spreader Configuration.

2) Bottom Lift Sling Configuration.

Figure 8. Top Lift Spreader Configuration. Figure 9. Bottom Lift Sling Configuration.

Can be seen above, the relatively simple option in preparation and operation, is the Bottom Lift
Sling Configuration method. So that this analysis will be continued by using this Bottom Lift Sling
Configuration method.

7.4 Safety Sling Angles

According to the Hoisting and Rigging Safety Manual, the safety sling angles range is between 45
deg and 90 deg, as shown on the following illustration:

PANDANARAN

DOCUMENT NO. REV. 1

Figure 10. Various Sling Inclination Safety Criteria.

7.5 Multiplication Factor for Snatch Block Load

According to the Hoisting and Rigging Safety Manual, the multiplication factor for snatch
block is typical and can be applied to this lifting operation, by changing the snatch block to
be the spreader beam, as illustrated below:

Figure 11. Snatch Multiplication Factor. Figure 12. Tabulated Multiplication Factor.

8.0 LIFTING WEIGHT CALCULATION

8.1 Estimating The Dynamic Lifting Weight

Based on the above information for the Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF) and the Inaccuracy
CoG Factor, the required lifting weight can be estimated. The weight of Aggreko 20 ft container
Genset is 19242 kgs, will need a 1.30 DAF for offshore operation. The inaccuracy CoG of the
Aggreko 20 ft container genset will need a 1.10 additional factor. So that, the total required lifting
weight will be:

Dynamic Lifting Weight = (19242 kgs x 1.10) x 1.30 = 27516.06 kgs

LIFTING ANALYSIS OF KM WAHYU
PANDANARAN

DOCUMENT NO. REV. 1

This result plus the total weight of lifting aids, say around 1000 kgs, will give the total dynamic
lifting weight around 28500 kgs (28.50 Ton), where this value is still below the allowable crane
lifting load 95.35 Ton.

8.2 Estimating The Dynamic Lifting Aids Load

Based on the above illustration in Fig.7-5 and Fig.7-6, there are 2 groups of lifting aids, the above
and the below spreader beam. The lifting aids above the spreader beam consist of 2 slings and
below spreader beam consist of 4 slings.

The dynamic load at each sling below the spreader beam can be estimated as follow:

Sling min dynamic load (below) = 0.5 x (28.50 Ton / 1.53) = 9.31 Ton

The load at each sling above the spreader beam, with 1 Ton estimated weight of spreader beam
and lifting aids, can be estimated as follow:

Sling min dynamic load (above) = (28.50 Ton + 1 Ton) / 1.53 = 19.28 Ton

8.3 Lifting Aids Minimum Required Dimension

According to the GL Noble Denton – Guidelines for Marine Lifting Operations, the minimum
required size of sling and shackles should follow some of the determined safety factors.

For the sling, the guideline safety factor is 2.25, so that for the sling below the spreader beam, the
minimum safe working load (SWL) is as follows:

SWL sling below spreader beam = 9.31 Ton x 2.25 = 20.96 Ton = 205.58 kN

According to the steel sling catalogue, the minimum sling diameter is 20 mm, as shown at the
below sample catalogue.

Meanwhile, for the sling above the spreader beam, the minimum safe working load (SWL) is:

SWL sling above spreader beam = 19.28 Ton x 2.25 = 43.38 Ton = 425.56 kN

Based on the sample catalogue, the minimum steel sling diameter is 28 mm.

The GL Noble Denton guideline for the shackles are:

PANDANARAN

DOCUMENT NO. REV. 1

SWL shackle below spreader beam = 9.31 Ton x 3 = 27.93 Ton

SWL shackle above spreader beam = 19.28 Ton x 3 = 57.84 Ton

9.2 Lifting Lugs

Based on the above selected lifting method, the Bottom Lift Sling Configuration method,
bring consequence which it is mandatory to use 4 lifting lugs at each bottom corner casting
side of the Aggreko 20 ft container size GenSet. One of the available product in the market,
especially in Indonesia, is the CLB type product of Camlok, as shown below:
