1.0 GENERAL
PT Global Ofshor Indonesia is assigned by PT Buana Listya Tama (BLT) to perform lifting analysis,
to move the 20 ft container size Generator Set, from the main deck of Flolift 200 Crane Barge, to
the 2nd deck of Petroleum 115 Tanker.
This report is prepared to provide brief description about the lifting method scheme and its crane
capacity selection.

Based on Siam Ship & Oil Trading (SSOT) and Salam Bahagia ship catalogue, the crane were
designed and manufactured by Sumitomo Japan at year 1999 with the following details:
a. Item No: SF 1700 HD
b. Type: Pedestal / Crane Lattice Boom
c. Main Hoist Capacity: 38 Ton
d. Main Boom Length: 36.5 m
4.3 Tabulated Crane Detail
As given in Siam Ship & Oil Trading (SSOT) catalogue, below tabulated crane detail with some
important data, such as lifting capacity and working radius for each selected crane angle,
are extracted from the graphics and curves of Lifting Capacity – Out Reach – Hoisting Height in
various boom angle, as follows:
BOOM ANGLE (DEG) 67.94 65.01 60.71 57.85 53.88 49.98 45.89 41.65 36.28 30.68
LIFTING CAPACITY (TON) 89.88 82.29 71.86 65.25 58.07 52.62 48.35 45.74 42.82 40.53

The crane lifting chart is made by using Table 1 above, and use the 2nd order polynomial
regression to smoothing the chart, with only 0.18% error result, as follows:

The inclination of the crane is one of the data that need to be prepared to estimate the maximum
load capacity of the crane. By using AutoCAD can be estimated the required inclination of the
crane, with result around 70deg, as shown below:
The recent draft condition of the Petroleum 115, as informed by the engineer at site, is around 8 m,
or the height from the surface water level (SWL) to the deck where the genset container will be
placed is around 18 m, as shown above.

Figure 8. Top Lift Spreader Configuration. Figure 9. Bottom Lift Sling Configuration.
Can be seen above, the relatively simple option in preparation and operation, is the Bottom Lift
Sling Configuration method. So that this analysis will be continued by using this Bottom Lift Sling
Configuration method.

This result plus the total weight of lifting aids, say around 1000 kgs, will give the total dynamic
lifting weight around 28500 kgs (28.50 Ton), where this value is still below the allowable crane
lifting load 95.35 Ton.
The dynamic load at each sling below the spreader beam can be estimated as follow:
Sling min dynamic load (below) = 0.5 x (28.50 Ton / 1.53) = 9.31 Ton
The load at each sling above the spreader beam, with 1 Ton estimated weight of spreader beam
and lifting aids, can be estimated as follow:
Sling min dynamic load (above) = (28.50 Ton + 1 Ton) / 1.53 = 19.28 Ton
For the sling, the guideline safety factor is 2.25, so that for the sling below the spreader beam, the
minimum safe working load (SWL) is as follows:
SWL sling below spreader beam = 9.31 Ton x 2.25 = 20.96 Ton = 205.58 kN
According to the steel sling catalogue, the minimum sling diameter is 20 mm, as shown at the
below sample catalogue.
Meanwhile, for the sling above the spreader beam, the minimum safe working load (SWL) is:
SWL sling above spreader beam = 19.28 Ton x 2.25 = 43.38 Ton = 425.56 kN
Based on the sample catalogue, the minimum steel sling diameter is 28 mm.

2) The first bigger ship is the cargo receiver ship, Petroleum 115 Tanker ship.
3) The second smaller ship is the temporary cargo transfer ship, which is equipped by
deck crane, KT Flolift 200 Crane Barge.
4) The cargo of this lifting operation is Aggreko 20 ft container size generator set.
5) For the efficient lifting operation, to reach the less crane rotation, the side by side lifting
operation is to be suggested here.
6) The estimated crane inclination requirement for this lifting is around 70 deg.
7) The suggested simple and safe lifting method, based on Freight Container Lifting
Standard, is Bottom Lift Sling Configuration, which is equipped by spreader beam.
8) Some suggested lifting aids in this lifting operation, based on calculation are:
