COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE

AR BUILDING TECHNOLOGY 02
3rd Trimester 2019-2020

Schedule: Lect. 7:30 - 11:00 Tues., Studio 11:00 - 2:00 W, 7:30 – 2:30 Fri. Room: U202

I. Design Program:
A newlywed couple with savings wanted to have a (1) ONE STOREY RAISED RESIDENTIAL HOUSE. Being for some time attach with their parents, they are now planning to have their own place
where they could start to raise a family of their own. Considering you as the architect, they consult you to design and plan for their dream house. The site is located at a swampy area in somewhere in
Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet which is (6) six kilometers away to the city Baguio. The lot is frequently flooded during rainy season with at least 900 mm high. The surface of the ground shall be considered
as elevation 0.0m. With their ample savings they planned to have (2) two bedrooms including the master’s bedroom with a toilet and bath. And one of the request of the wife is to have a spacious balcony
overlooking the strawberry field and connected with the family room. Other spaces or areas will be provided by you, the designer so as to complete the entire design needs of the house.
The type of building construction will be mix type where the raised floor will be of purely wood. There will be no concrete beam to be used instead girder (wood) above the concrete column and with the
exception of the concrete stairs leading to the main door and/or the balcony, the floor will be of concrete slab with tiles.
Roof design will be of pattern either from dos aguas or cuatro aguas or the combination there of. Flat roof design will not be allowed. The building materials will be adopted from the present trend.
From line 1 and 2 abuts an interior road (dead end) with a width of (5) five meters while line 2 and 3 is parallel with a creek (4) four meters wide and overlooking towards the strawberry field. The site is
seen to be relatively flat and surrounded by 200 mm. thick CHB wall and with a height of 1800 mm. except along line 2 and 3 which is 2100 mm. high. The technical description is as follows;

Line Bearing Distance (Meters)

1-2 (Interior road) S 59° 39’ E 25.88 m
2-3 (Creek) N 23° 56’ E 17.98 m.
3-4 N 56° 50’ W 28.59 m.
4-1 S 13° 59’ W 19. 65 m.

XII. Methodology
A. Research Work (Word/pdf)
This enables the students to have their first hand technical data leading to the solution of the architectural design problems.
B. Film/Videos/ppt. materials
It’s a helpful tool for the students to see and gather information from the past, current and futuristic trend of designs and planning in order for them to broaden their perspective in constructing their design
concept.
C. Online Sources
As a helpful material to accomplish and enhance the work output, the students will be directed to the recommended online sources for their convenience. Students are expected to dutifully do their part for
their learning in gaining knowledge for the subject.
D. Final Design
In the face to face class atmosphere students follow in sequence the preliminary design and planning know as Case Study Plate (CSP) which upon the remarks/comments of the instructor return it back to
the students for final planning and design, but due to the pandemic COVID-19, Online Distance Learning (ODL) is enforce. The students now in this subject will do the plate requirements assisted by

online methods and tools. Be able to combine garnered knowledge from their researches, discussions and the past errors as well as from the commendable solutions. The students are encouraged to show
their utmost ability and capacity to architectural presentations. Presentations required are detailed plans, elevations, sections, and details. Architectural scale models may also be required.
