FINAL PERIOD

1. Based on the discussion. If you were a recent graduate entering a new job, what would
you do to maximize your power and accelerate your career progress?

As a fresh graduate entering a new job, I would like to apply to a brokerage firm, if
not in a big agricultural company based in Quezon. I plan to build my own business after a
few years of experience to either brokerage or agricultural sectors. I would make my way
inside the applicable sector to have a better view of the company. This would be done by
making friends and strengthening the bond with my acquaintances. I won’t be bothered even
if I start from the very bottom, I would make it as a way of finding the crucial part of the
company and how it processes work through the hierarchy. When I feel that I have every
chip I needed to start my own I would make connections within the company to have a better
contract for my future endeavors. I believe this would propel my understandings on how this
companies work and give myself an advantage to better start my own venture.

2. “Politics isn’t inherently bad. It is merely a way to get things accomplished within
organizations” Do you agree or disagree? Defend your position

I agree. Politics gives a person power so that he can achieve whatever agenda he
aims. There might be times where a person has a clear conscience and prioritize the
organizations’ interest rather his own, but power given by politics most of the time corrupts
people by giving them the ability to control others to behave in a manner that would benefit
him, not just because he has it but because he can exercise it. It encourages people to have a
different point of views that result in conflicts that arise is what politics is all about. The
process of politics then provides an opportunity to have a competition on who has the best
way of resolving common problems. This way organization can preserve and maintain itself
and have stability within the different branches of the organization. This means people can be
put to their respective places coinciding their personal expertise that would benefit the
organization the most.
