• It is the embodiment of feelings and
behavior which makes man a unique person that he is. • Personality is the reflection of Inner self Personality as Defined
• It is the way an individual is interrelated through his
ideas, actions and attitudes with the many nonhuman aspects of his environment and his biological heritage. • It is the overall pattern or integration of a person’s structure, modes of behavior, attitudes, aptitudes, interests, intellectual abilities, and many other distinguishable personality traits. • It is the conglomeration of the following components: physical self, intelligence, character traits, attitudes, habits, interest, personal discipline, moral values, principles and philosophies of life. It also includes one’s idiosyncrasies. • Refers to the total person in his overt and covert behavior • Personality is defined as the sum total of the qualities and characteristics of a person as shown in her manner of walking, talking, dressing, and her attitudes, interests, and ways of reacting to other people. Aspects of Personality
1. Physical- includes the mode of dressing,
manner of walking, posture, body build, health, complexion and facial expressions 2. Intellectual- how a person talks about is what matters in intellectual component of personality 3.Social- Good manners, correct manners are included in this aspect of personality. To do the right thing at the right time, to act in the proper manner, to get along well with others 4. Emotional- Includes a person’s likes or dislikes. 5. Value System- Includes a person’s attitude, values, beliefs and philosophy in life. This is also referred to as CHARACTER Components of Personality • Habits- These are actions that are repeated at regular intervals until they become fixed characteristics. • It could be of a good and bad habits 2. Attitude- Certain ways of viewing things as ingrained, acquired and developed through years of exposure to man’s family, school, community 3. Interests- natural inclination to focus one’s concern towards a specific area of work. 5. Values- ways of upholding certain priorities of needs in according with the hierarchy of needs by Abraham Maslow 5. Principles- guides to a person in making judgment based on norms of morality Factors that makes man different • Heredity- people are born with a set of genes and chromosomes inherited from forefathers and parents. • Environment- Consists of family, school, church, social groups with whom one interacts from the very beginning. • Experience- Consist of everything that one does or get in touch with , everything that he or she is exposed to in his / her lifetime Reasons for Developing Personality • Social acceptance • Self Satisfaction • Self confidence • Keep ourselves on the job Techniques in Improving Personality • Realize that improvement is needed • Have a strong motive or desire to improve • Take an inventory or make a checklist of the strong and weak points, of what is to be improved • Have a step by step plan for improvement “Accept people for what they are , accept the fact that no one is perfect, that everyone has weaknesses, inconsistencies and irritating habits”
