 the required probability is followed this formula

P (9.7<X<10.3)=P( 9.7 - 10 <Z< 10.3-10 ) = Φ (3)- 1 + Φ (3)Φ=0.9973

That is 1-0.9973=0.0027 part of the total that is 3 have to be scraped out.


For the next part, we continue apply the previous formula

P (9.9<X<10.1) = P ( 9.9-10 <Z< 10.1-10 ) = Φ(1) - 1 + Φ(1) = 0.68269

That is 1-0.68269 = 0.3173 part of the total that is 317 have to be scraped out.

To bring down the rate, the deviations have to be lowered and (or) the customer must be
convinced to take a larger interval of accepting the product.

The histogram will have lower frequencies in the last points while a higher frequency at the
middle. The frequencies will go up until the mean of the distribution and then decrease
