Looking Glass Self Theory

Socialization is present wherever we go, we observe how people look at us. Self-
perception is based on what we think of what other people think of us. This is the
concept of Charles Cooley’s Looking Glass Self. We tend to create our own
perspective through judging ourselves by putting ourselves in other people’s
shoes. The judgment of people is what we use as a basis of value and behavior,
usually the grounds for us to change something about ourselves. But then, it is
not the judgements of people that change us, it is the perception of the self on
how others think of us. Nowadays, some base their worth according to the
number of followers or likes they have on social media. This increases self-
judgment as social media is very popular today.
