Motivation
(Divide the class into (2) groups and each group will have a maximum of 15
actors and actresses)
Each group will have actor and actresses. There will be a picture that will flash on
the screen and each group will have 10 seconds to familiarize the picture, they will
be given 1 minute to copy/portrayed the picture being presented. The group that can
actually get the copy of the picture and first gain two points will be the winner.
Questions:
1. What have you noticed in our game?
2. Does it challenge you to be a great actor or actress?
3. How’s the feeling upon copying the picture as one of the characters there?

Drama- Drama comes from Greek word dram, meaning “to do” or “ to act” .
Drama is a composition of prose or poetry that is transformed into a performance on
stage. The story progresses through interactions between its characters and ends
with a message for the audience.

script, the scenes are not usuallylabeled by numbers. In a TV drama, a commercial

ELEMENTS OF DRAMA
1. Plot The sequence of events or incidents of which the story is composed.
Conflict-is a clash of actions, ideas, desires, or wills.

“fate”.
c. Person against herself/himself- conflict with some element her/his own
nature; maybe physical, mental, emotional, or moral.
2. Character-Most simply, a character is of the person who appears in the play.
Protagonist – the main character of the play
Antagonist – the principal rival of protagonist by exhibiting opposite traits.
Foil- defines certain characteristics in the protagonist by exhibiting opposite
traits.
Confidante- provides the ready ear to which the protagonist can address
certain remarks.
Chorus- a group of actors who functions as a unit. It was a characteristic
feature of Greek tragedy.
3. Theme
The controlling idea or central insight. It can be;
3.1. A revelation of human character;
3.2. Maybe stated briefly or at the great length
3.3. A theme is not the “moral” of the story. A great theme a play of long
life.
4. Dialogue- provides the substance of a play. Each word uttered by the
character furthers the business of the play and contribute to its effect as a
whole.
5. Set design
Set design is the arrangement of theatrical space; the set; or setting, is the
visual environment in which a play is performed. Its purpose is to suggest
time and place and to create a proper mode or atmosphere. Setting can
generally be classified as realistic, abstract, suggestive, or functional.
6. Lightning Design
- has two functions: to illuminate the stage and the performers and to
create mood and control the focus of the spectators. These properties
used to achieve visibility, mood, composition and the revelation of form.
7. Costume Design
- is whatever worn on the performer’s body Costume designers are
concerned primarily with clothing and accessories, but often conveys for
wigs, masks, and makeup. Costume conveys information about the
character and aid in the tone or mood of the production. Because most
acting involves impersonation.
8. Technical Production
The technical aspects of production maybe divided into preproduction and
run of production. Preproduction technical work is supervised by the
technical director in conjunction with the designers. Set properties (props,
and costumes are made during this phase by crews in the theater shops, or in
