Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

 Define analogy
 Analyze relationships presented in analogies; and
 Supply other words or expressions that complete an analogy.

B. Motivation
The teacher will let the students answer an activity wherein the students will then act as
word match makers, they are expected to match word posted on the pocket chart onto
the words written on the board.

Directions: Be a word match maker, match the words posted on the pocket chart with
the words written on the board.

The teacher will properly discuss the topic

Analogy is a relationship or a comparison between words. It is a comparison of two different


things to show their similarities.

In Analogy, the single colon (: ) means “is to” and the double colon ( :: ) stands for the word “as”

There are different types of relationship in completing Analogy.


1. Synonym- a synonym shows two things that have same meaning
 find: locate:: lose: misplace
 strong: sturdy :: great: wonderful
2. Antonym – an antonym shows two things that are opposites.
 Closed: open :: curly: straight
 Kind: cruel:: happy : sad
3. Part to whole- relationship shows two things connected. One is part of the other.
 Child: family:: student: class
 Chapter: novel:: stanza: poem
4. Cause/Effect- a cause explains WHY something happened while effect explains the
RESULT.

5. Characteristics/ Quality- people and things are usually described by their special
qualities, or characteristics

D. Generalization
An Analogy shows the relationship between words. It is the likeness between two things
that are otherwise unlike. The different types of relationship presented in analogies are
synonym, antonym, part to whole, cause and effect, characteristic/ quality, degree,
tool/worker, classification, item/purpose, and worker/ product.

E. Application
Directions: Most of us are experiencing challenges and trials that cause us to fear and
give up. This time, you are to encourage your friends who seem to be losing hope.
Construct a sentence for each given analogy to express your thoughts.
