PASSIVE VOICE

Setelah pembelajaran selesai, peserta didik diharapkan dapat


1. Mengidentifikasi kalimat dalam bentuk Passive Voice
2. Mengubah kalimat dalam bentuk Active Voice ke dalam bentuk Passive Voice
3. Membuat kalimat Passive Voice sesuai konteks penggunaannya.

Task 1. Study the following sentences.


1. The job application letter is written by Yudi Feriandy
2. Many peoples are being infected by Corona Virus.
3. The schools in the green and yellow zone will be opened by the government on
October 2020
4. The job seekers have been interviewed by the personal manager.
5. Fried chicken was served by my mother for our dinner last night.

Grammar : Passive Voice


The sentences in Task 1 are in PASSIVE forms / PASSIVE VOICE. A sentence is Passive when the
subject is the receiver of the action.

The Pattern of Passive Voice : Subject + BE + Past Participle / V-3 + by Agent

When changing Active sentences into Passive Voice, note the following:
1. The subject of an active sentence become object of a passive sentence, usually
preceded by a preposition ‘by’.
2. The object of an active sentence becomes the subject of a passive sentence.
3. The verb is changed into be + past participle (verb-3). The form of ‘be’ depends on the
tense and subject of the sentence (singular or plural).
4. You don’t need to mention ‘by agent’ when it is not important, such as by him, by them
or by us.
