IR-UTD Imaging
• Infrared time-lapse image of deck
• Objective
measurement of deck
debonding
• Nondestructive, sees
through overlays
• Minimal impact to
traffic

Project Overview
• Two 10-span 953’
bridges over the
Snake River
• Built in 1960; PCC overlay added in 1977
• ADT of 19,300 vehicles
• On Westbound, PCC overlay was removed and
replaced with Microsilica overlay in 2008
Project Overview
• Westbound Repairs:
▫ Construct MPCO, all spans
▫ Remove and replace joints
• Eastbound Repairs:
▫ Remove existing PCC overlay
▫ Construct SFC overlay
▫ Construct MPCO, Spans 1 & 9
▫ Remove and replace joints
• Demonstration project for IR imaging
IR-UTD on Snake River Bridge

• One setup per thermal cycle
(24 hours)
• 4 two-camera setups on
bridge
• 28,500 ft. ଶ of deck in 4 days
