Answer these questions in a discussion and write down your answer as a group:

1. What kind of event is being portrayed in the paintings? What emotions are the artist trying to
rs e

evoke? For what reason?

ou urc

In my observation, the event that was being portrayed in the painting is death, agony, and chaos. For
me, the artist is trying to evoke the memories of the fallen soldiers in their time, the soldiers are
being portrayed as gladiators in the painting that are surrounded by mourning people and being
o

killed mercilessly by the oppressors. This shows the happenings in their time where war is always
aC s

present and easily be triggered.

2. As mere, frail human beings, why do you think we have such artworks to process the emotion?
It is to express ourselves and what we think about the situation, just like how we can form songs or
lyrics because of our emotions. Through artworks, we can also express gratitude, hate, love, and etc.
ed d

You can simply identify any form of artwork either lyric from a song, abstract art, or even dance on
ar stu

how it is being portrayed. It’s just a matter of expressing yourself or the artist’s mood.

3. How did the artists elicit the emotions of the narratives through the subject matter?
is

They elicited their emotions of their fallen comrades that were fighting a battle for our freedom and
finding the justice that will serve as the greater good for everyone. It is also a portrait to remember
Th

what the oppressors did in order to oppress the weak mercilessly for their benefit.
