CLO1: Discover various hardware components of a computer system, different types of software used
in a computer system, ethical issues, computer security risks and safeguards. (C3, PLO2)

CLO2: Examine the basic components required for successful communications and the various network
communications technologies. (C3, PLO2)

Submission Details

● Assignment report is to be submitted as one single document.


● The report should be in 1.15 lines spacing, using Calibri with font size 12pt.
● Your report should contain the outcomes of the research, evaluations and recommendations.
● Acknowledgement and Table of Contents should be included in your report.
● All references must be listed clearly by using Harvard Referencing System.

● Feedback on the assignment will be given to the students by Week 14, by the tutor in-charge.

Grouping

This is a group assignment. You are required to work in a group of 4 to 5 students. Each and every
student in the group is responsible for finding, analyzing and preparing the assignment report. All
students should contribute evenly to the tasks assigned.

Plagiarism

It is not acceptable for students to submit identical answers, by simply copying the work done by
another student or group. Assignment that is copied from another student or group will be awarded as
failed. Refer to the attachment of the Plagiarism Statement and Declaration Form. Read and
understand the plagiarism statements, then write your name, your student ID, and sign for declaration.

Late Submission

A late penalty will be applied for any late submission. The penalty is as follows:

• 1 – 3 days late: deduct 10 marks

• 4 – 7 days late: deduct 20 marks

• After 7 days: 0 mark will be awarded

Your friend, Lee is an 18-year-old student who noticed that social media is becoming an important
aspect today. Therefore, he would like to take his first step into becoming one of the social media
influencers and hopefully make a name for himself out there.

Section A (58 marks)

1. Suggest a suitable computer for Lee. List out the brand, model, price, date released, brief product
description and a photo of the product. Justify your selection.
Note: Your team MUST carry out a research to thoroughly study the LATEST (most recent 3
years) computer available. You may make your own assumptions on the types of content Lee may
post, number of followers etc. (10 marks)

2. Suggest any TWO (2) types of utility software and TWO (2) types of application software that are
suitable to Lee. Describe these applications in terms of company, price, and THREE (3) features.
Explain the reason why these features might benefit Lee. (48 marks)

Section B (40 marks)

1. One of the main tasks for Lee is to setup an Internet connection at his home. Before he can set it
up, he must decide between a wireless network and wired network. Compare between wireless and
wired network, then suggest the most suitable network to Lee. Justify your selection. (20 marks)

2. List and explain TWO (2) devices required for Lee to setup the network your team suggested
above. Include a picture for each of the devices and describe these devices in terms of company,
model, price and THREE (3) features. (20 marks)

Report Presentation Requirements

Students are required to adhere to the following sequence of presentation requirements:

1. Submission form (cover page) – Appendix 1 (Fill up all the details except marks and total)

2. Plagiarism statement – Appendix 2 (Fill up all the details)

3. Table of contents - It should indicate the various headings or sub-headings covered in the
assignment and page numbers.

4. Body (Answers) - This is the main part of the report and students are to follow the requirements
of the assignment.

5. References - students should include a list of references in which the students have used only.
Details of reference books, magazine, articles or Internet sources that were not referred to are
not allowed to be listed. All references must be listed using Harvard Referencing System.

6. Appendices - Students should include all relevant materials, figures or diagrams in the main
body rather than in the Appendix in order to enhance better understanding of the assignment.
This section is reserved for items which may not be directly relevant or essential to enhance a
reader’s understanding of the assignment or which may interrupt the smooth reading of the
assignment (for example being too voluminous).

Assessment Criteria

The assignment report contributes 50% to the coursework mark. The breakdown of the mark is as
