Michel Phelps

Michel Phelps is a swimmer. He was born on June 30 th, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He has two older
sisters.
Michel began swimming when he was 7 years old. He had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD), and swimming helped him to channel his energy. He dreamed about becoming a champion after
watching the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Michel competed in his first Olympics when he was 15 years old. He didn’t win any medals, but he loved
the experience. His best events were the butterfly and individual medley. Phelps competed in the 2004
Olympics and was very successful. He won 8 medals. Since then, he competed in three more Olympics. He
has won a total of 28 medals. This is more than anyone else in history! He holds 39 world records. Michael
is an Olympic champion!
Michel retired from swimming after competing in the 2016 Olympics. He is considered one of the greatest
swimmers of all time!
