B. Lesson Proper
I. Motivation
Ask a student to draw a parallel line on the board.
On the first line the teacher will write the word "eating" and will discuss the structure of
the word. Afterwards, the teacher will ask another action word to the students and
construct a sentence out of the given words.
II. Presentation
Parallel Structure
-parallel structure also called "parallelism" is the repetition of a chosen grammatical
form within a sentence.
- Parallelism means using same pattern of words to show that two or more words or
ideas are of equal importance.
Use parallelism in single words and phrases such as:
 Verb
Not Parallel - Sheila wrote a letter and send it to the school.
Parallel - Sheila wrote a letter and sent it to the school.
 Adverb
Not Parallel- Shaira works efficiently and she is effective.
Parallel- Shaira works efficiently and effectively.
 Adjective
Not Parallel- Jillian is young, beautiful and thinks maturely.
Parallel- Jillian is young, beautiful and mature.
 Gerund
Not Parallel - Kristian likes travelling, camping and to paint.
Parallel - Kristian likes travelling, camping and painting.

Directions: Identify whether the sentence is parallel structure or not. Before each
number write P if the sentence is parallel and NP if it is Not Parallel.
