PERSONAL STATEMENT

Before I became fascinated by the media world, I was subconsciously a part of it

like everyone else. The news on TV, the magazines that I read and the
commercials urged me to buy the products I purchased. I find it remarkable and
inspiring how the media exercise power over our lives whilst offering rich cultural
rewards. I am amazed by the action and effects of human communications of all
kinds and am keen to extend the insight I have gained so far. I have always been
interested in the subject as it is captivating and has very high relevance in
society.
My undergraduate study in English has further prepared me for the course as it
helped me gain communication skills needed to succeed in the Mass
communication field. My bachelor's program also helped me learn proven
techniques to analyze communication and disseminate information more
critically. There are various career options available to English Language majors,
with a career in mass communication a significant part of it.
Considering my skills and interests, I would find fulfilment in working in the
creative industry. The education from the University of Bedfordshire along with
my commitment to the subject and with my language skills and would allow me to
pursue a career in the mass communication field. Therefore, I have chosen to
study this masters course as a pathway to my career in the mass communication
field. With this ever-changing world, studying this course would keep me updated
on the modern practices in mass communication and better prepare me for a
career in it.
My interest to continue my education at the University of Bedfordshire spurs from
the course structure of my desired course. The MA Mass communication is
further embedded with Data analytics which is the future. Apart from learning
about mass communication, course modules like Data Modelling, Management,
And Governance would help me understand the concept of data analytics,
manipulation & presentation, which are core skills required in the modern work
environment. The university’s excellent reputation is also another factor I
considered. The university is home to many international students. The diversity
is beautiful. I certainly look forward to having different nationalities on campus
and interacting with students from various mass communication backgrounds,
degree disciplines, and cultural, national, and international experiences. The
University of Bedfordshire has a very high employability rating. Most of its
courses are accredited, which speaks volumes of the level of education being
impacted with strong industry links with BBC, TUI and Channel 4. The university
is also known for its innovative research and world-class facilities to support and
aid learning. Furthermore, the university is also located in Bedfordshire's buzzing
city, one of the Uk’s big cities with many attractions. Bedfordshire is also a city
with lots of young people, which makes it a lot more exciting.
I choose to study in the UK because of a host of reasons. Firstly, the quality of
education. A UK degree is widely recognized as equal to that of other top
countries globally. It is well ranked internationally, which is very much superior to
that of my home country. Secondly, the affordable cost of education in the UK,
given the excellent quality of education, was another factor I considered while
choosing my country of choice. Thirdly, the international exposure of the country
was another factor I considered. The UK is exposed to many international
applicants, and as a result, assimilating and blending in would be much easier.
Having acknowledged that United Kingdom education is well recognized all over
the world. More importantly, the first four top university rankings are from the UK.
This shows the quality of education in UK universities. The UK universities are
inspected regularly to uphold the high quality and standard laid down by the
government. Right now, UK research is world-leading with international
excellence and relevance. This would also assist in propagating evidence-based
practices, and the duration of most courses in UK universities are shorter
compared to other countries. Finally, the cultural diversity of life in the UK is
unequalled, considering the cosmopolitan towns and cities to historical centres to
the ancient buildings, which could enrich my cultural perception.
Studying at the UK University will allow me to study in a core academic
environment with excellent facilities for learning with ease, such as the innovative
library and amazing research supervisory team. This will facilitate my critical
thinking skills and problem-solving techniques, which would enhance my
research skills. Universities in the UK are known to be international student-
friendly institutions. The staff are highly dedicated and experienced experts in
their field.
