Chapter 3

This chapter presents the research method and the

production procedures undertaken in this study. It is

divided into two parts: (1) Research Methodology and

(2) Creative Production Design.

Part One, Research Methodology, restates the

research purpose of the study, specifies the source of

information, and discusses the procedures in gathering

information.

Part Two, Creative Production Design, restates

the production purpose of the study, describes the

medium and materials used and discusses the procedures

undertaken in coming up with the short film

production.

Research Methodology

Research Purpose

This study aimed to determine the concepts elements

and techniques of a short film and the concepts of

making a short film and to know more about

the livelihood “Panguling” and the process of it.

Method

Ethnographic-creative research method was

employed in this study. Ethnography-creative research

is the recording and analysis of a culture or society,

usually based on participant-observation and resulting

in a written account of people, place or institution

according to Simon Coleman and Bob Simpson.

Source of Information

Information necessary for this study was

obtained from primary sources through interviews of

the selected folks of Barangay Nueva Invencion.

Secondary sources of information were gathered from

internet surfing, dictionaries, and encyclopaedias.

Research Procedure

The researchers visited the BVNHS library, and

surfed the internet to gather data and information.

Also interviews were conducted with the local folks of

Nueva Invencion, Barotac Viejo Iloilo.

Interview

Letter to the Principal. The researchers sent a

letter of permission and notice to the principal

office to allow them to go out of school premises and

conduct interview with the local folks.

Letter to the Barangay Captain. The researchers

sent a letter of permission and notice to the

chieftain.

Letter to the locals. The researchers sent a

letter of permission and notice to the people of the

said barangay.

Transportation. The researchers travelled on

purpose to go to the barangay with the teachers to

undergo the process of interview.

Guide questions. The researchers prepared a set

of questionnaires consisting of a relevant questions

to be answered by respondents in gathering information

about the livelihood “Pagpanguling”

Taking Down Notes. In this process, the answer to

the question were taken down of references by the

researcher.

Recording of Interview. The researchers record

their interview for this will be serve as their

reference.

Documentation. The researchers had their picture

taken together with the respondents for documentation.

Creative Production Design

Production Purpose

This Creative study aimed to produce a short film

using different kinds of shots and techniques and

editing on Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Medium

The medium in this production is in a short film.

The language used for the story line is in Hiligaynon.

Materials

Materials used the following materials to achieve

their short film.

Dslr Camera. Is used to film or to record a clip.

Tripod. Used to stabilized the camera to create a

smooth shot.

SD Card. Used to store clippings.

LED Lights. Used to light the subject and the

background

Battery. Used to supply power for camera.

Script. Used as the basis on making the film.

Adobe Premiere. This application was used to

arrange the scenes and make the whole film.

Laptop. Used for editing the final output.

Production Procedures

The researchers considered several processes

undertaken one by one:

Brainstorming and conceptualization. The

researchers brainstormed and conceptualized the story

based on the testimonials of the informants during

interview need in the film production.

Interpreting the Storyline and Screenplay. The

researchers started to wrote the storyline according

to the events based on the testimonies of respondents.

Story Conference. The researchers deliberate the

screenplay together with the director and director of

photography.

Look test. The researchers the suitability of an

actor or actress for performing on film or in a

particular role. 

Production Design. The researchers supervised the

set up of loactions lights and cameara angles for the

screenplay to elevate the story visually.

Location Scouting. He researchers searched for

the location that is best and essential in making the

production.

Shooting. The actors, and actress and director

shoot the film and reshoot some scenes which they

believed needs to be improved.

Choosing of clips. The researchers chose the

clips necessary for editing.

Pre-Editing. The researchers edited the chosen

clips.

Applying sound effects. The researchers applied

the sound effects including Background music and

official sound track and voice overs to elevate the

various scenes in the film.

Color Grading. The researchers color grade the

film.

Re-shooting. The researchers re-shoot some of the

scenes.

Final Editing. The researchers made the final

editing to be viewed in the audience.

Ost Recording. The researchers recorded the

official sound tract of the film.

Poster making. The researchers edited the poster

to promote and advertise the film.

Film viewing. The researchers showed the final

output of the film.
